Waste of time here
to windy ?
its a bit like silage additive, you get to keep using them, more as an 'insurance', just in case you might get a 'disaster'.
And to be truthful, haven't had a disaster pit of silage, for decades. I can remember some butyric silage, years ago, we used to go along the feed face, with a hand sprayer, spraying on some delightful smelling 'scent'. Definitely worked, the cows ate the silage, but they had to, there was only a bit of hay, for them, and cake in the parlour, they didn't get a choice.

out of interest, do you use clingfilm as well
or how many do use clingfilm ?
We do, and apart from being a pain, when we put more into the clamp, taking it off, we feel it reduces top wastage. Yet others say its a waste of time, be interesting to know how many do use it.
I use and wouldn't be without it. We tuck the edges in and dump very little. It catches the wind here and I find that it is easier than putting the black sheet on. The only down side is that it is not so easy to take off for another cut and put back on.

Just received a winter contract price, 18% top of the range for ÂŁ424/t or ÂŁ427 with acid buffer

How does that sound to everyone?

That's an increase of ÂŁ130/t compared to winter just gone but that's to be expected

If that’s for a compound it’s on the money. If it’s for a blend it’s £15 too dear

Another question I meant to ask, my reps getting me a price for maize distillers to put on top of my maize to bring the protein up along with a few other starughts, is there any other straights in particular that are high protein and good value for money at the moment?

It's the right price for today's straights.

There is an argument that all bad things have been factored in to today's straights prices and therefore future movements are more likely to be down than up.
Buying is all about leaving a risk your happy with.

If it went up 100 pound a ton it won't cost you more than 10,000 and you've just had a 4 p price rise that you weren't expecting worth probably 28k.

The arable boys fix a margin they can sell wheat and buy fert on same day. Unfortunately we have no idea what are milk price will be if you fix your cake.

I need to have a look at the budgets first then.
Unless anyone else's crystal ball is working better than mine? I think I've accidentally picked up the same one the weather forecasters use 🤣
