Allen keys

Does anyone on here know if a 3.5 mm Allen key exists we broke the spider shaft above the walkers on our jd 2258 combine and can't get an Allen key to fit the locking Collers on the bearings 3mm is too small 4mm is too big been through all the sets of keys i have and can't find a 3.5mm one. Even tried an AF set to no avail . TIA.

You may well find an imperial size will tap in nicely.

If all else fails, try bashing in [tapping gently] a small Torx using a socket extension.

3/32 imperial is 2.3mm

They are available, but just a bit more common than hen's teeth
RS tools are supposed to stock them.
You may need to buy a set
08457 201201 is their national number

It is a common complaint on cycling forums as an Italian manufacturer likes using thrm but no one get the key to fit

I searched hi &lo for a 9mm 1/2 '' drive allen key to undo bolts on a mower which were too loose using 8mm. They all go in 2mm steps. Eventually found one on ebay that was for fitting brakes on some car.

For 'loose' read 'worn'

Some Allen bolts are a very loose fit before you even start using them.
As @Campbell says hammer a torx bit in and replace the bolt.

Never had much to do with Deere but are they not us built and therefore imperial fittings?

Probably 9/64 imperial 3.57mm we have a big set with that in but no 3.5

And ebay sell everything

Could you not file down a 4mm one to fit?

Should be on grinding gears thread! Why can't manufacturers use standard or common sizes? Bloody awkward if you ask me.

If you get a drift (long 1/2" extension) and give the head a few taps with the hammer, 3mm will now be a tight fit again, it might even be loose.

Thanks for all your replies , I got a 3.5 mm key from a neighbour , new shaft fitted took all day to do it good job it wasn't a harvest day weather wise!!!!!

If you'd googled '3.5mm allen key' rather than writing all that out, you'd have found out

One tip with any bolt, screw or Allen bolt is to tighten it first before undoing it.
