Allotment on my boundary with no planning.

Live and let live . I can't see anything that would be a 'blot on the horizon' in the photos .
If they need planning permission then perhaps a gentle word in their ear to advise might help rather than let them carry on regardless . .....a helpful neighbour is always better than an awkward one and you can choose which you want to be .
If only a quiet word would do it! You soon discover that generosity is just taken for stupidity. Speak softly and carry a big stick (or in my case keep three big hairy dogs!) is my advice.

Don't worry overmuch, it will all fall apart within 5 years. We have had two plots in our village, one bought by some people from London, they appeared each weekend for the first two years, planting trees, growing a few vegetables. Not seen for at least 5 years, its now full of self set trees and brambles.
The 2nd was more formal, local eco warrior family bought a farm house with its remaining 5 acres or so and set up a community farm, first year various incomers were down there digging, weeding etc filling the land with old greenhouses, sheds, worn out carpets for ground cover etc. The greenhouses were the B & Q £120 type, so the first fen gale and over they went, sheds the same. Owners went off to Africa as it all fell apart. Eventually sold and the new owners have had a massive clear up to do, tonnes and tonnes of crap carted in by the participants in the community farm.
We've now got a new one to look at, an abandoned orchard went up for sale last year 2.5 acres, guide price £25k. Sold for £85k plus buyers commission etc. Someone is now appearing in their BMW and slowly clearing the jungle with a chain saw and hand tools. Will they reach the back boundary before they run out of enthusiasm ?

That sounds splendid. So you would allow shanty towns to develop in scenic areas? Old cars and rusty corrugated iron sheds? Tourism is a big earner for some areas. So we let a few selfish people spoil that business for the many? Why is it some people cannot live without spreading their filth everywhere? I thought that was one of the main objections to the travelling community? No, it is not just the size of the operation but the fact that planning law is completely disregarded -- by the planning department too, who seem to derive some benefit from turning a blind eye.

If it's your land, do what you want as far as I'm concerned. I may not like it, but that's my problem.

Beauty (or ugliness) is in the eye of the beholder. A lot of the area around me used to be farmland but is now covered with houses or factories- not my idea of beauty, but some people think it's better than looking at 100 acres of bright yellow OSR. There's also plenty of "award winning design" buildings in the local town that would look better as a scrap yard imho.

Go in looking to buy some eggs or something and take it from there. They might actually be glad of some tactful advice.

If not just grin and bear it, as long as they're not encroaching on your land. The rest of your life is a long time to be at war with your neighbour.

And it'll save having to eat humble pie when you have to go and retrieve sheep from their vegetable plot... ;)

So I am in talks with these people. They are happy to discuss and admit the plastic is a dilemma to them too.
Please be aware I am simply trying to get a balance here. If they cover all 12 acres in plastic it seems a shame. A nearby allotment has a row of fruit trees between each set of beds to break it up...that kind of thing would be good.
Our valley is known around the world and many tourists come here to do a certain walk....Surely some protection is sensible.

No one has a right to a view.

How would you feel if you wanted to put up a shed which in your opinion was unobtrusive but the locals all complained?

If along with the carbuncle there is a breach of planning and deliberate deception and lies by the authorities I'd probably be as angry as I am now. For some reason, the anger doesn't go away when you see it every day. With landownership comes responsibility. There are some things in life you shouldn't do just because you can.

On that same argument you should not of been able to restore your pretty ruined mill Im sure it was pretty when ruined - Some protection yes but not stopping people producing and learning - and the valley is not their for people to walk - I have the busiest cycle path in north yorkshire cutting through me - That is irrelevant though isnt it really? The pretty views are nice, but the public walking and riding doesnt mean my land suddenly becomes theirs for the view.
Anyway having let land and worked with CSA groups in the past I can assure you, your more likely to see 3 or 4 polly tunnels and an acre or so of improvised ground cover, and if all goes well, something that resembles the Charles dowding gardens, but that will take them years to get their, they really need £10k an acre for what they're trying to do (I've read their FB and crowd funding - they're woefully underestimating their needs).

In all honesty your best bet is to help and support them, get on your tractor and plough their field for them - thats what I did. I cant stand the vegan members of my local group - but hell, they would be long gone without me and my iron pony. You want a success - a failure will mean the land sold off as 3 little paddocks of 4 acres and you'll end up with horsey neighbors - if you want hell to moan about they will give you it.

And my personla opinion ABSOLUTLY no protection for a view for others, is ever morally justified as long as the materials theyre using are genuinely being used for producing food - which is the purpose of farming afterall.
I've donated them £10.

My mill is still a ruin after 3 years 🙈...
so it's still pretty. No money or time....but trying.
A good read is your post. Interesting seeing the different views on here. Funny that my post has resulted in them getting a donation 😄.
I predict delilah will be sending them a poly tunnel next 😉. She likes me really.
