Ally persistence?

Stupidly I mixed some Ally Max in with the weed control of one field destined for OSR this autumn - stupid because the normal method I use for planting rape is scratching and drilling, and the Ally label says you must plough before planting rape in the same year.
Does anyone know if this advice is just being cautious, or you will definitely get bare patches if you don't plough? My soil is clay, if that's relevant.

Phew, you don't know much better your reply makes me feel!
I vaguely remember years ago when the SU sprays first appeared, when there were several stories about patches appearing in fields after use, and my mind was running riot about failed crops etc!
The field has already been sprayed so there's no possibility of control strips.

I once didn't flush out sprayer properly before spraying kale. The SU left in pipework wiped out 2 lots of kale. After which I gave up as just a small area at gate.

I've seen osr crop write off when DD after late applied ally (later than this) so it can be a problem especially after a dry spring/summer
its fairly rare tho……….
depends on all the obvious factors but it certainly can be a problem

If everyone did that when the label said so, then a lot of direct drillers would not be direct drilling.

I presume that if it says 'must plough' on the label, then that is a legal requirement of using the herbicide. Would that be the case? @Brisel might know.

If it is the case, are some direct drillers or mintillers potentially breaking the law?

Not sure what the case is now but in the past labels had a statutory box which was the legal requirement and some advisory information which was just advisory.

Think there are a few herbicides where the label says 'plough before next crop'. Kerb? DFF?

Not even including the DD people, lots of others mintill for rape after cereals or first wheat after rape/beans.

Surprised the DEFRA inspectors haven't picked up on this.

I don't like to even slightly bend the rules when it comes to safeguarding my BPS.

The whole label is statutory now.

and I have yet to find a propyzamide label that doesnt say "must" plough to 6" before sowing a cereal.

Interesting Kerb fact of the day (!) if you apply on 1st Feb, it means you cannot plant wheat until 1st September even if you really wanted to drill Claire at 75kg/ha.

On the Ally Max label, it says soils "should" be ploughed before planting other crops, so I'm not so worried about compromising my BPS in this case.
