Alternative to pick ups

Looking for options to replace a van at mrs work (vet practice) they currently have 1 L200 and a few berlingo sized vans. The large animal vets are towing a tipper crush at times and there’s a bit of conflict with vehicle sharing so in an ideal word they would run 3 pickups. Seeing as there is a shrinking number of pick up options (and prices rising and availability not good) I can’t think of there being anything like a shogun or Nissan patrol type smaller 4x4 still in production, is there anything out there that has 4x4 slightly better ground clearance and 2.5t towing ability….. commercial would be a bonus but does that throw us back down the pick up route?

SsangYong do the Musso pickups, capable of towing 3.5t, and on the same chassis have a Rexton SUV. Have the Rexton myself and like it. The back has plenty of level storage onto which storage cabinets can be built for vet supplies.

Had ruled out Mitsubishi as they are leaving the uk market, the land cruiser option is same money as a pickup I think so no saving or advantages I can see. Guess I’m thinking something like a freelander/disco sport without the price tag and reliability costs of a land rover product 🤔

Skoda Kodiac has 2.4tonne capacity, some of the VW Tiguans go to 2.5 tonne. There will be others similar - maybe some Kia Sportage or the likes?

With that weight requirement, you might be as well spending a few hours on a caravan forum and see what they use.

The issue could be these are cars to use within a business, and depending on the set up may be taxed as such.

Is it really 2500kg?

Plenty of mid sized vans offer limited slip and raised suspension / aggressive wheel options. Most are 2000kg.

Something like a Vivaro would fit the bill. The 180hp Auto can tow 2500kg and a much nicer place to be than a pickup and more secure / space for carrying medicines / vet kit / her dogs / even getting changed in the van with washing down under the lifting tailgate if you spec that

I know what I'd sooner drive

I've a flatbed one in a shed that I've been saying I will restore for 12 months or more now. Will probably/almost certainly never happen though

Local Ford New Holland dealer had one as a van in the village when I were a kid. Single wheel rear axle and proper old school hand donr sign writing.

Big waiting lists on some, local spray lot waiting 12 months for AWD Transit. Hilux is April 22. Berlingo/Partner good van for vets will go most places with snow tyres. Almost all Inverness dealers are snotty pricks. New Landy or wait for Ineos🤔🙈

Do they use the vehicles for private use? I’m not convinced the vat saving on a commercial pick up is worth is when you take the poor fuel economy into it. A decent sized van with 2 rows of seats would be my preferred option.

Even choosing the right doublecab-in-van can be a financial minefield for your business.
If I remember correctly it was HMRC vs Coca-Cola gave some clarity
