Amazone fertiliser spreader on Batemean Hi-Lo

Having bought a second-hand Hi-Lo with a spreader deck we want to use it to apply some fertiliser using an amazone spreader - tramlines are really tidy as we put liquid fert on up until now this year.

The spreader is now a lot higher than it would normally be on the tractor and presumably this will alter the spreading characteristics? There are a lot of similar set-ups so I guess there must be some information on how to adjust the settings? Is a tray test the only way to go? Would be grateful for any advice please.

Thanks

Use to use same set up but did not alter settings at 24m spread . Just be careful when spreader is empty as it's much lighter on back end compared to the sprayer so slopes can get intresting !
Also when swapping from sprayer to spreader base , with just the base , you will struggle to reverse up even a slight slope due to wheel spin.
One tip , cut off the handles on the Jack's and weld a 24mm nut on shaft and use a impact gun to wind up/ down the Jack's ( on your own ,it will save 10 mins each swap)

thanks very much for the tips. Someone has kindly converted all the jacks to hydraulic rams previously so its a doddle apparently.

All of the spreader charts I've seen from Amazone specify the height of the spinners at 80cm. I guess it depends on whether you use the charts much.

We do - nothing from Amazone but an Amazone dealer reckons that we could pull the vanes back a notch from the stated setting to try to offset the height increase but seems most people carry on as normal. Seems a bit strange to worry so much about settings /set up then no real answer to what is potentially a major change of parameters.

It probably makes more of a difference if you are at 36m tramlines than me spreading at 10m on grass. Funny thing is the vane settings are often exactly the same if at 12m or 10m, just the rate settings alter.

Thinking about this again and guessing you have a hydraulic motor driving the PTO with a regulator ? I can remember ( it was 20 yrs ago) that I went to a dealer who checked the PTO speed with a digital instrument to make sure the PTO is running at 540 rpm and what revs etc to run at . I have a feeling that I use to run just under 540 rpm which I guess would counteract leaving the settings the same even though machine is higher than on a tractor .

makes sense

the spreader is in test - was just hoping that there was a simple factory recommendation for allowing for higher mounting. I am amazed that with the number of similarly mounted units that there isnt.

I wouldn’t doubt it’s tested…… just that such a change in operating height might be worth a tray test to be sure …
Fantastic rape crop just out of CA !

Yes, point taken - agreed, it would have been a good idea but the operator wanted to get the fert on and sprayer swapped back over so no time to organise it. Either everyone else is doing it wrong or I am worrying too much.
thank you - more luck than judgement/beginners luck 😉

We put one on a Househam Sprint and as it was 2 metres high we were getting a 50m spread but with a very even spread. After a bit of trial and error we’ve got it ok now the main problem is shutting the engine down enough to slow the pto but still drive the hydrostatics.
