America's largest farmland owner (242,000 acres)

So death dutie after Ww1 to penalise the wealthy Estates forcing them to sell farms to tenants was a mistake?
When did your grandfather buy his farm?

Never. One Grandfather was an eye surgeon and the other had a tenanted farm after WW1 and lost it in the 1930's, then worked his way up to be an estate manger. My father (his youngest son) was an agricultural engineer.
I started with nothing (and still have most of it left). I rent land on an FBT from one of the last traditional estates who fortunately for me don't want to own and run every possible enterprise themselves.
My landlord owns over 10000 acres and I'm sure that brings it's own problems. I'm fortunate to have none of the family issues that often goes with inherited land.

So when you have your 500acres put all the blood sweat and tears into it to make it best it possible can be won’t you want to leave it to your kids ? Death duty’s force them to sell it tho ..... ???
There were pros and cons, winners and losers, it had no effect on me because a) I wasn't alive then. b) None of my forebears gained or lost through them as far as I am aware.
can you not consider the wider picture beyond your own interest?
