Amish Covid

But if you look at first confirmed case France was earlier too so as I said first case to lockdown was very similar in most countries, people say we should have shut the borders, from the apartment we were in we could look down on the motorway to the mont blanc tunnel, there was a the normal amount of traffic passing along even two days after lockdown when we left .
I'm sure there are things every government would do differently in hindsight but nobody has faced a pandemic
No we could all see the direction of travel. Having cases later should have been an at vantage. We had longer to learn and prepare. other island countries got it right. I’m not saying NZ has gotten it totally right but they responded far more quickly and reaped the initial rewards of this.
the same could also said but to a lesser extent the slow banning of travel from India.

Has NZ or even Australia to a greater extent, opened up to visitors from overseas yet?

Sorry but lockdowns could have happened earlier in response to what was happening in Italy and china especially but Boris choose the economy over people.

Thats nonsense. There was a massive (mostly left wing) opposition to closing the borders before covid-19 kicked off in Italy (which is the point at which a border closure might have worked. The Mayor of Florence even had a 'Hug a Chinese person' day in early February 2020 because he considered the concept that the borders should be closed was 'racist', which is the Left's response to just about everything. In the USA Trump closed the US to people who had recently been in China on Feb 2nd 2020 and was roundly attacked by the usual suspects for doing so. Nancy Pelosi (Democrat leader in the House of Representatives) went of a special tour around Chinatown in San Francisco in late February 2020 to encourage people to go out and visit Chinese Restaurants.

There was absolutely no calls by anyone, scientists or politicians, for the Governments of any Western nations to close borders and initiate lockdowns at the point those policies 'could' have had some effect, namely in mid January 2020. By the time it was going nuts in Italy it was too late, it had already spread globally. To look back with hindsight and declare 'we should have locked down earlier!' is attempting to re-write history. No-one, even those now saying we should have locked down earlier was saying that at the time it would have counted.

If you look at the average over the world from first reported case to lockdown we were pretty average, apart from uk citizens/workers returning no one from abroad would have come in as everything was shut, only essential shops and businesses were open, not sure what else could have been closed, wales tried a short lockdown last year if I remember correctly, it didnt work.
Only the deluded think it could have been eradicated, look at Oz cases are now rising despite stopping anyone entering for a very long time, all governments have tried to slow the spread to a level health systems could cope with while trying not to completely destroying the economies, were mistakes made, in hindsight of course but we all make decisions based on facts available not on hindsight, sometimes we get lucky some not.
The biggest blunder of all was allowing the Delta variant into the UK by not closing the border to India simply because of Bozo's supposed needs, if it had been kept at bay & not spread through out the country before vaccines were well established we wouldn't be in the dismal mess we are now in!

Are we in a mess now or well on the way to "herd immunity"?
What percentage of those dying of covid at present have not been vaccinated?

I'm sorry but you cant compare NZ with the UK, Iirc Heathrow has more travellers in four months than travelling through all of Nz ports of entry in a year. If we got it wrong then do did most countries.

Are there any countries in the world that dont have the delta variant? By the time it was sequenced it was here

The next blunder could be the people accepting further restrictions in the name of "controlling" what is now an endemic disease.

New Zealand also banned Chinese travel on feb 2nd. The signals were there some countries took them some didn’t. How people can say it’s fine to have made a mess of the situation just because some
Others did beggars belief.

The important number as we are always being told is what hospitals can cope with, whether it's ill patients or staff not able to work because of family members having it, the more it spreads the more whether you're vaccinated or not you will be isolated. Our hospitals already so far behind for other treatments are never going to catch up with the now widespread infection in the UK.

I know how Terrible it will be to be asked to wear a mask on a public place again 🙄
I was thinking more along the lines of lockdowns, how effective are the measures we are undertaking in reality? From being alert to lockdowns, the elderly dieing alone, school being cancelled. The firebreak lockdown in Wales did - nothing.

I caught it in france december 16th 2019 . them went to Spain in March

Analysis of samples of water taken from the Paris sewage system in November and December 2019 showed that Covid was already circulating at that point. Similar analysis in Italy and Spain confirms the same. It was already in Europe long before it showed up in any official data and the idea we could have 'stopped' it is ludicrous.

I think there are many question marks over the accuracy of these tests. Many believe they were affected by other coronaviruses particularly those which infect children.
We have to realise that they are testing at minute scales of one in millions of billions!
