Not if you are a tenant, and aren't showing much profit, surely.
They’ll have something in the budget for that particular situation I’m sure. There’s no money to start with, tax rises and spending cuts are needed already without them making new promises like these that will cause more problems. The money has to come from somewhere.

Funnily enough, I’d just read a profile of Reeves praising her as being well-qualified for the job and sensible. And then I heard BBC reporting above inflation pay rises for the public sector. There was a gap of about a minute between the two reports :X3: 😅

My partner is a teacher in a secondary school, the highest grade she can get to without becoming assistant or head teacher etc.

We worked it out that she's on about £22 an hour.
so £44600 a year £22x39 hour x 52 weeks , paid holiday etc many would say not bad
So NOT poorly paid thank you for clarifying to one of the person s who pays their wage

But teachers are leaving and there are now teacher shortages ?

Green grass syndrome.

If they won't work for what they're being paid, bring in someone that will. There's always someone out there that will do the job better and cheaper than you.

Given that wages were held at 1% increases for a long time and inflation was at 11% in recent history. A 5.5% rise doesn't seem 'bumper'.

Reminder that the state pension welfare went up by 10.1% last year.
Discrepancies abound certainly, all the more so when you get wild swings in inflation for inastance. But public sector vs private sector, why are public sector workers any different to those that will end up having to pay them?

Having a strong economy is what will pay for everything in the long run, but Labour policies always make things worse over time. The canary’s clearly dead already looking at this.

My son has just finished his Gcse , the standard of teaching is appalling. Some of them sitting at computer doing private matters when supposed to be teaching , The CTD teaching was so bad i am going to complain ( engineering, woodwork , design) Some of the teachers are good , many from sending two kids in over the last years , are crap

Before blaming the new government too quickly, this is not what has been promised. This is the recommendations of an independent body which has been operating for a very long time in the public sector and quite possibly part of Rishi‘s reason for going for an election as he knew what was coming.
Whether the government goes for it is another issue and also whther the Teachers and Nurses accept iot either another. The big question is the junior doctors. Remember they have already turned down 14% offered by the last government and whatever they finally settle for is going to be looked at setting the base for all the other unions
