They need to make sure they're "not for profit".

The marketing is so defunct it is unable to command a premium (when was the last time RT wrote a cheque for you to give you the premium for your efforts?) so they need to pee it away on something
So why doesn’t the RT advert strap line go like this....

‘ Taking farmers money and wasting it since 2001’

In his defence, the Estate has a 60 cow Red Poll suckler herd, all progeny finished or retained for replacements which he, of his own choice, does pretty much all of the work for, which gets him out of the office for an hour or two each day.
Also he seems to like doing quite a bit of practical stuff at weekends when he can get his mitts on a tractor/forklift.
Yes there is a farm manager and I think AB tries hard not to interfere.
How quaint to have your employer to pay for your hobby. He must be very very busy if he only finds enough time to to escape the office for a couple of hours a day. The majority of the day is spent kissing Moselys arse, surprise RT inspections and choosing which insults to throw at us peasants next all whilst avoiding being stabbed in the back by a naive person.

Being Estates Manager for a huge business like that is pretty remote from the real job, he has a farm manager who is much closer to being an actual farmer, but I think most farmers relate far more to ‘true farmers’ who are managing their own risk in their own business.
Blenky has no risk of his own and must be almost 100% office based.
not enough skin in it

What an odd attitude. Most employed manager have more skin in it than people who inherit farms and who have no great need to justify their existence on the farm. I’m sure there are many things you can criticise about him but his work ethic probably isn’t one of them.
Being a manager with a tied house with boards of hard nosed agents and trustees to keep happy would be very stressful.
