What on earth possessed the farmers of Suffolk to elect him to represent them?

Because they are sheep and we’re told what to do by their local Nfu people. Much like they’ve no control over their own business’s and allow the likes of the Nfu to take what they want in varying membership fees and act directly against that farm business by putting its corporate members needs first.

It’s shows the NFU will do anything to look after their own. Same is true for the merry go round of jobs at Red Tractor. For them farming is something to extract money from. Not to stand up for.

They devised a new scheme the other year. Feed Advisor's Register. Sort of like BASIS but for feed reps. Pay to do a course, and to be on the register.
What's the betting RT introduce it in a year or two's time. "Rations and feed advice must come from an advisor who's completed the Feed Advisor's Register modules".
And don't get me started on the FIAS scheme. P+K blends that are completely different colours from the same batch, damp lumpy rubbish, dusty, etc. Shows the worth of an annual inspection.

I'm surprised Mr Blenkiron got the job as Suffolk NFU Chairman. In his previous position on the board at RT, he called the RT farmer members "backstabbers" on the Farmers Weekly article, just because they had a different view to himself. I don't think that was very sensible.
Wonder what he's going to call the Suffolk NFU members if they voice their descenting opinions on RT.

As I understand they have a job to fill the post.The nfu in east anglia is a shadow of its former self.The staff in the newmarket office with experience have just about all gone now Paul Hammett the abstaction guy has retired.Most smaller growers will not pay NFU sub and the appallingRT so how much longer a regional NFU base can keep going is debateable
I think you are right. The regional offices will shut under the next cost cutting exercise. My local office (also the mutual) told me 99% of their business is insurance and life policy’s etc and 1% union stuff. In fact the last union meeting they had which was before the pandemic had 2 people show up. The staff outnumbered the members. Says it all really.
More patronising guff from this man in this week’s FW. To sum up, he hopes that the ignorant backstabbers will come to their senses and vote for the AHDB to continue exactly as it has been because it’s very important

One would almost think he’s mates with some of the people who benefit from ahdb and might on past evidence be rewarded a job there……
You also might think that having called many of his readers backstabbers that Farmers Weekly might reconsider his employment, instead they give him a platform to spout out his trite bull shite on a regular basis. The more I see and hear of the industry “establishment “ the more disillusioned I become. If this is the best he can come up with I think we should try and trigger a vote in the future of the ahdb. If I knew how to do it I would. The consultation is a sham and crap like this is the last straw.

More guff from the industries biggest embarrassment. Why he is still being given airtime is shocking. All he’s interested in is saving the gravy train that shafts U.K. farmers by taking membership or levy and then spending it on corporate friendships to keep farmers shut up tight on the merry go round of stealing off them. Another reason why I don’t read the FW as it’s full of idiots like him.

He says he wants to ensure that farmers can see a way through the challenges they are currently faced with – including being undermined by cheap imports grown to a lower standard. “We all know government needs to keep the food cost-effective and affordable – but we need to compete on a level playing field,” he says.
Previously vice chair of Red Tractor and chair of the RT standards committee. He knew imports were coming in, and trade laws mean we can't stop them, and he says we need to compete on a level playing field.
So why back a whole raft of new standards at RT to tilt the playing field even more steeply uphill, and then call farmers who spoke out and disagreed with him as "backstabbers".
