Andrew Neil...

I really can't 'like' Andrew Neil as a chap, there is something about him that simply doesn't appeal to me, although I can't put a finger on it. But that doesn't matter, he really is a good journalist and interviewer who, regardless of political colour, holds politicians' toes to the fire. He also has a less aggressive manner when interviewing non-politicos for informational reasons, as demonstrated below; the BBC really were stupid to force him out.

I think he does a good job. I think we all know his politics but I think he holds all to account and is professional in his job. I don't know the guy so couldn't say if I'd like to spend an evening with him but I think he is doing a good job as a journalist and far better than about 99% of the other lot. He's an asset to any serious political channel (which the BBC is no longer).

Are you asking why I might think that?
If so, we’ll, your postings for some years come over somewhat as implying that you think that uk citizens who choose to leave the uk and live elsewhere as treacherous 🤷‍♂️

Mind, you’ve never stooped to accusing us of “abandoning” our families, that was for another Brexit fan:poop:
I think you've got that wrong mate. Not that I can claim to have read all the posts but I can't see D would be like that.

If you have read those sentiments into my posts, you have misunderstood them, and me. I'll repeat what I have written before and add a little more, to try an help clarify my views on these matters.

Firstly, and with regard to France and the French... I like France very well, the country as a whole and the people in general. Obviously, there are some individuals I don't like, just as I have a regional preference for Central and South-Western France. I share the sentiments of many of my French friends regarding Paris too, but I don't see that as any surprise because I'm not over-fond on the London-centric priggishness that exists over here either. What I heartily dislike about 'France' are its long-term 'strategic' policies - being both intelligent and observant, you'll notice that all of this, despite what President Macron may like to dramatise around, are all sourced from the mandarins of the Quai d'Orsay.

As for people who have moved to France, good luck to them and in all they do and hope for, right up to the point where it conflicts with the UK's national interest - and there my good will stops, dead. Merely living in another country - even in France :) - is not in itself in any way treacherous; taking the part or side of another country, including France, against the UK is self-evidently so.

I don't know of many who have 'abandoned' their families, but condemn those who truly have, regardless of whether they have done so locally or internationally.

Neil was quite close to Bobby Maxwell, so the mind boggles.
And Pamela Bordes

From Wiki:

Allegations[edit]
In the late 1980s Singh worked in a brothel which had provided one of British publicist Max Clifford's clients with various services. Clifford asked the madam to reveal details of her girls and clients, and found that one prostitute, Pamella Bordes, was simultaneously dating Andrew Neil (then editor of The Sunday Times), Donald Trelford (then editor of The Observer), Conservative minister for sport Colin Moynihan, and billionaire arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi.[5][6][7] Clifford rang News of the World editor Patsy Chapman and drip-fed her the story of Bordes through the investigative reporter she was using on the madam. The story was published in March 1989 under the headline "Call Girl Works in Commons", since it was discovered she had a House of Commons security pass arranged by MPs David Shaw and Henry Bellingham.[8]
