Another KRM problem.

ive got a brand new krm L2 spreader this year to replace the one I wrecked and it’s exactly the same with hydraulic opening to let material out of the hopper.this is done manually and there are no electrics, poverty spec machine.anyway allways used it on my 6620 which has not changed since I bought it but had a set of tyres 5 years ago.the old spreader I could set by the spread charts on the www or by the book and it was never out by more than 10kg product hectare.the new one was between 15/18% over on applications on the same settings.i only use premium products, nitram and double top.had dealer out and all seems fine and calibration matches the spread charts too.allways run the tractor at 14kmph and I’ve checked this speed against a sat nav. And it’s spot on with reading on dash.i put my second dose of double top on this week and reduced the setting by 3 numbers and it’s alot closer to my old spreader.by reducing the numbers I mean going from(for example) 3.1 to 2.9.only thing I can think of is the double top is a bit differant this year.anyone got any ideas.

Check the settings on the app and see if they are different from the book. I know they have played with the nitram settings as the product flows slightly differently from the 2 factories.

Do you have the kit to do your own flow test. That’s what I did when I had a manual machine.

Settings in the book are the same as settings on bogballe website.also same as last year too.yes I’ve got the kit to measure the flow factor, infact a rep done it and all is fine.i can only suspect fertiliser coukd be at fault.will call cf Monday morning.

Sorry to intrude…. but what are the old red ones like for spread …?. assuming only 12mtr width is needed and one could be found not too rusty

Hi Nick,

From what you are saying it seams that the variability is in the fert.
On our fert spreader (Vicon) we have to do a calibration test when we have a new type of fert to use. We use lots of Yara's Axan and so keep the calibration values from year to year and then just enter them into the spreader control box when we next want to spread Axan. (Even though the opps book says to do a test on each new batch of the same product) However over the time we have had the machine we have had to redo the calibration test at least twice because of the spreader under or over dosing. As soon as we put the new values back into the machine then its back to being spot on again.
I don't know if this helps you, but if your tractor/machine settings are constant then the only other variable is the fert, you could look to see if its all the same batch, and if not try a bit from another batch maybe?

Last year i used cf compound fertiliser, some from the previous year, and some fresh. Same tractor and spreader set up but the newer batch went on at a higher rate. I guess you may have a different batch of fertiliser causing your flow rate to differ.

I’m pretty sure you are both correct as it’s the only variable.i only buy premium brands to alleviate such problems but it seems the double top may be a bit differant this year.im only using about 25 ton of it a year so it’s all from same batch.going to spread some nitram tomorrow for final application on the rape as it’s 3ft plus tall.will use same settings as last year and see what happens with that.
