hi all,

just joined up and thought i would have a giggle and read through all the previous (well most) posts in regards to metal detecting!

i can honestly say i never actually thought farmers thought this way about metal detecting! then it dawned on me, if a farmer has an available email address then surely they are going to be bombarded with the same old crap email asking for permission.

i do have 4-5 local permissions which are ok but nothing special. I even offer to pay a tenner each time to go detecting as whats a tenner for a couple of hours picking up a load of old iron and shottys!!

One permission i even give them everything i find, roman coins, buttons etc as not worth anything apart from the historical factor and not classed as treasure.

i would love to entertain you all with my permission letter but after reading "that" thread i think i will hide behind my keyboard for now. Im also not going to lie, i have found some good gold and silver to date, and between me and two land owners we have received £60k each in the past 7 years, which aint bad for walking around a ploughed field like a loser freezing my nuts off, thinking about how much my missus is embarrassed when she has to tell friends where i am!!!

Is there ever a good time to ask a farmer? i can tell you i have had some pretty blunt replies to emails and i never take it personally as whats the point!

All us strange loser type folk that want to walk around wriggling a stick and then jump up and down over a rusty or grubby bit of metal must be a special breed indeed. All i can do is say sorry if you have met the rude and arrogant members of my community ( such as the ones who organise digs, and charge us £30 a pop and only tell the farmer they charged £15, and the ones who donate the takings to "charity"). Yes in any game there are always the ones who spoil it for the good guys and give us all a bad name.

PLEASE IF ANY DORSET FARMERS WANT A FUNNY CHAP WIGGLING HIS STICK AROUND ON THE WKND FOR YOU TO POINT AND LAUGH AT THEN IM YOUR GUY

PS, I HAVE REALLY SHARED A TOTAL OF £120K WORTH OF FINDS WITH LANDOWNERS AND AM WILLING AND HOPING I CAN DO THE SAME WITH YOU HARD WORKING FARMERS, AS I THINK YOU PROBABLY HAVE ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT CAREERS IN THE COUNTRY.

Anyway all the best and thanks for getting this far down on my post, and you never bloody know, i might just gain a permission for my effort at abit of light hearted entertainment

pps, i am in this hobby solely for the purpose of finding gold and silver which is worth a life changing amount of money, so never let a fellow detectorist tell you they are in it for the history! as your telling me they find a £1million hoard of gold and say " na dont worry about it me old buddy you keep all the prize money, im just in it for the HISTORY, haahaha, yeh right"

kind regards

a silly 30 odd year old ( i like to think im funny too) stick wiggler

cheers

You can come and have a look here if you like, we have Stour Valley sometimes - great bunch and they give me their finds too! I'd like a couple of references and membership of the NCMD...
