Another sheep clamp thread

I know there's a lot of Combi clamp fans on here what pros and cons would you say comparing it to the Scotsqueeze as I've been very impressed after seeing it working and seems pretty reasonably priced saying it's about 1k less including the weigh bars and electronic weigh head? It also seems a lot nicer finished now compared to the early ones? I've defintely decided on buying one I just want to make I'm making the right choice!

The automatic clamping of the scotsqeuze makes that win over combi.
But nothing to go wrong on a combi clamp. The electronics are bound to go wrong somewhere down the line on a scotsqeuze.
Tempted to sell my combi and buy a scotsqeuze

I'm not terribly worried about the electrics etc going wrong as About 95% of the time I'm handling sheep inside a building just shift between three farms!

Personally, the flexibility & sim0licity of the CombiClamp is one of it’s attractions. You can easily change from catching them further back to crutch them, to having their heads out of the front for easier drenching bolusing. You can even crutch them, let them move forward, then squeeze again to bolus, all by lifting one leg slightly.

If you are going to just catch one in the same position, every time, then I can certainly see the attraction of an automatic catch though.

The biggest downside of the CombiClamp, particularly if you have 3 sites, is moving the damned thing. Mobile it is not! IIRC the Scotsqueeze is a lot smaller & lighter?

It's pretty much the same size and probably slightly heavier but has a good jack and wheel system that doesn't double the price! I know what ur saying about it being easier to adjust sheep in the clamp though.

If you need to use I over 3 sites, the CombiClamp really needs to be put on a trailer somehow, which will make it dearer again. It really is a PITA to lug it about & set up otherwise.:(

Is the atv kit for shifting the clamp simple to enough to shift it round. We bought the kit but have had it located in one place as we have everything under cover/lights/power so take the Sheep to the clamp instead and far nicer working inside at this time of year

Any of the auto clamps have magic eyes on a slider so you can catch them in different positions.

Scotpen have a prototype auto catcher. It' to be on big wheelbarrow size wheels. Weigh and maybe turn sheep over. Instead one the side pivoting from the bottom like most the side moves forward on a ratchet system. If it all comes together it will be some machine. Basically the animal makes it work.

Yeah I was thinking of building it onto a caravan chassis or similar but as you say that will add to the cost.

I heard they had something like that in the pipeline but were struggling to get it to work everytime because of different sheep weights.

I
Unsure how much difference the weight would make as it's not worked from pushing down. Not when I looked at it anyway.

I would say there is a good market for someone to make a small portable sheep holder. Maybe with a auto catcher cattle crush thing. Any sheep scanning trailers I've seen work that way so must be able to work.

I suppose the Rancher or the drenchmaster fits into that catagory but seeing them working they just don't have the capabilities of the Combi or the Scotsqueeze.

Andy84. Bought one last summer after looking at all other options endlessly. Put trutest load bars on to go with my existing trutest weigh head. Can't fault it one little bit. Catches every time. You can let the sheep run up while you are chasing the next mob up. Possibly not that mobile but I only use it in 2places. No better or worse than a combi clamp
Was waiting on the scotpen auto catcher but as said elsewhere there is a real problem making it work consistently

I personally like the fact you can step off to chase sheep up and the gate automatically opening at the back of the clamp to allow access for crunching!!

Use a Rancher here but not putting big numbers through. Big advantage is neatley sits on the back of th prattley and takes 2 mins to set up. Using sack trucks makes moving easy. No lifting.More than makes up for being slightly slower on your own. Can weight 250/hr with two though. Use prattley race gates to sort. About as simple as you can get. Not that applicable to the OP but been meaning to post these pics for ages. Might help someone.
Just noticed bent piece of metal bolted to the light board is a good way to hold board on without tying just lift the drop in gate to unhook. Black mating was old gale breaker. Didn't work wasn't strong enough they put their feet through it!
