What exactly happened?
A very good question.
Understandably at times like these everyones sympathies are with the friends and family , but if we are to learn from yet another tragic loss it would be helpful to know what exactly happened

In my mind its not something to be shared on a public forum at this time.

I know what happened, and if I do, I expect quite a few other folk too, but i dont feel it is for broadcast on a public forum.

One split second, one small mistake, thats all it takes.
Be careful folks.

Learn from others , but all very raw atm tbh.

Having turned over a quad on the road at low speed (10kph) seeing two youngsters doing 50mph with no helmet and light clothing made me shudder!

I know that the farming industry will all feel or felt the pain of losing a loved one in an accident, but please leave searching for specific details.
If only we could turn back the clock we would always be wiser.
I won't be searching for any info but the way to get wiser is to share information, but agree not at this time
I once had to pull a friend from under an overturned tractor who had sadly died , no roll bar fitted ,

What an appalling waste of a promising young life

Got to think safety, safety, safety every time you set about a job, machinery or cattle equally dangerous.
Condolences to the family who have lost a loved one .

How right you are and as one gets older ones reactions become slower, a split second slower can mean a serious survivable accident at best, say no more.
Last Friday like an idiot I reached into my firewood processor to quickly twist a piece of wood straight , how I never had my hand crushed I don’t know. I have done it several times before but being a bit slower almost caused the loss of my fingers at best!!

Lost a neighbour and friend 20yrs ago,had only seen him half an hour before, one of those heat of the moment things, had he thought about what he did he wouldn't have done it but things had been playing up and a small lapse in concentration had such a devastating consequence, only early 30's at the time.
Machines are so big now you don't get a second chance.
Terrible thing to happen, condolences to all involved.

On the topic of safety it concerns me the long hours machinery operators work at busy times during the farming . Agreed technology on machinery has taken away some of the concentration needed to operate it BUT unlike actual machines, humans do get tired, which leads to mistakes being made with perhaps fatal consequences.
I wonder how much the mobile phone has removed concentration from the task at hand

The big issue is this kit it getting dearer and dearer to purchase which means it needs operating for longer hours to pay and much of it it's getting so advanced it takes very skilled operators that are in limited supply. This often leads to one man in a team being the drill or machine operator as a specialism who ends up doing unsustainable hours.

So tragic for the young lady . Thoughts our with the family .

about time farming was dragged out of the dark ages, I was doing 14 hours last week with no breaks. Jumping from drill, sprayer , muck spreader, repairing broken machines, jcb loadall, checking calfing cattle.

We all do these crazy routines/ hours it’s not healthy it’s not safe, I was on autopilot and can’t remember much looking back.

no other industry’s does this.

tragic accidents like this make you really think.

Sorry to here another fatality
Be extra careful
When working on my own always have phone in my pocket
And give any one who leaves it in the tractor
Now always go slower walk round rather than over look twice when driving
If you cannot see the banks man always assume it is not safe to move or lower
