They're a *lot* louder, given that they ignite around 250ft in the air so the sound carries far further. More of a 'boom than a bang, not dissimilar to 'light' artillery. They really come into their own when the pests your trying to move are on a slip lead; especially when fired at an angle just under 45 degrees (2 1/2 feet of 3/4"metal pipe, bottom end crimped in a vice, stuck into soil). If you fire 8 of them over the space of 40 seconds they tend not to come back.

8! [emoji23]. That sounds brilliant.

I like lighting the banger ropes and throwing them high up in the flying rats favourite trees

I may (or may not) have acquired some Pirtek rockets to celebrate nephews 16th birthday.

The "Stalins Organ" I had created from some drainpipes and baling twine was a sight to behold.

Launching a barrage of eight across a small valley from a high point was rather dramatic especially with the resonance along the valley.......

Apologies to anyone living near Axminster.

They are loud.......... very loud.

I would be "intervening" by talking to the farmer and/or adjusting said items depending on the result of the discussion. If they are away from the block of land they might be blissfully unaware ............. or not.
There isn't really any way of finding out who the responsible party is. Land is owned by whoever but he doesn't farm it and is rarely around, assumed working abroad. It could be rented out to any one of at least four different "growing companies" (I won't use the word farmer, because they simply do not fit that description any more). Banger is probably placed there by an unknown "pest control contractor" who is probably based miles away. Am I right in thinking these things are controlled remotely by WiFi or 4g now? Council can't be bothered to look into it and are in the pockets of the big money veg growers anyway. It was off last week so maybe somebody else got sick of the damn thing but it's back on today, 3 loud penetrating thuds at 6.40am.

Sounds like really responsible behaviour. You trying to clear pigeons or an entire town?

Can't beat a bit of pigeon shooting and all that lovely healthy meat for the freezer. You feel you are at least getting something back for the crop they have eaten and it hasn't been entirely wasted.
Any bang that doesn't result in a dead winged rat is a waste, kill the f***ers. Don't play pigeon tennis from one field to the other.

No. Remote control of bangers is extremely rare. They have built in timers & photo sensors that will tell them when to turn on & off.

It is a total waste of time jumping up and down and pulling your hair out....or shouting at the man behind the counter.

If the owner/person in charge of the banger can't be contacted, tape a polite note in a rain proof polythene envelope to the gate, send copies to your local councillors (https://www.writetothem.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_pOqrea-5QIVysreCh0hSgXPEAAYASAAEgJNrPD_BwE), and local newspaper. Also, phone your local radio station -- or better still attend in person and ask them to record your interview.

As my old boss used to say, "You'll catch more flies with honey than you will vinegar". Sometimes people will deliberately try to wind you up because they know if you lose your temper you will be less credible and appear as a nut and they win on points.

There was a banger in a nearby field (years ago). I simply turned it off. Job done. If it had been turned on again, the feed pipe might have been damaged causing a loss of gas. But of course that wouldn't have been me! :)

Just got back in.
Neighbours gas banger going off twenty to five this morning.
I have identified it and can give the company phone number a ring but do not expect anyone to answer on a Sunday.
Neighbours are a big noise in the nfu, but I am annually amazed at their lack of attention to these noisy bloody things, pre dawn.

This one is sited close to a village, and we ask the public for their support ?

I feel utter frustration that whoever puts these guns out has no thought for the area they are in, and can only assume the people involved live nowhere near these delightful machines.

Yes, that is poor .
Disturbance of the peace on a Sunday as much as anything.
Being Left on for long periods doesnt scare them either, they used to it.
Just a walk around the fields once or twice and wave around a bit is more effective ime, Course some dont get out of bed early enough to do that or are too idle to walk preferring to ride around everywhere in a truck and get overweight.

Sadly it's just another thing that advertises that some farmers just couldn't give one and/or are so thick that they can't even be trusted to set up this simple equipment properly and responsibly. It will lose us what little sympathy the public have left, resulting in an outright ban. The banger manufacturers aren't much better wifh some designs having daylight sensors that react to moonlight and run the banger through the night. Crap design and unreliable electronics.

Having said this, I use one now and again but try to be sensible and considerate. I won't run it before 7.30 am or after 4.00 pm even if it is daylight. I don't point it at conurbations either. To deprive an entire village of its sleep to save a corner of my poxxy oilseed rape isn't a price worth paying. It's better to shoot and reduce the pests rather than keep banging away from now till May, just getting the birds accustomed and immune to the noise while annoying everybody for miles around.

Have a thought. We really can do without antagonising people. We need their support.

Hopefully...............

That's exactly what I've found, repeated use doesn't discourage rooks.
Yes, walking round, showing your face does spook them enough to move on.
