Antibiotic failure

Just had the call from meadow foods to say I’ve had an antibotic failure...
yet I’ve not used any antibiotics for a long while. I’ve had no cases of mastitis for a month or so so not treated any milk cows. Currently their are 12 dry cows which run with the milk cows and none of them have had dry tubes only teat sealant. So where do I stand on this one?
Tested the bulk tank as it is with 3 milkings in, passed, no signs of antibiotics. NFU aren’t being very help other than helping me with a possible claim, meadow foods say they are only paying 1ppl for the milk sold which failed the test, yet how can it have antibiotics in when I haven’t used any? Any help on this one appreciated

I’m not exactly sure what to do.
Ask them to retest the sample

Explain that nothing has even had antibiotics used on them.

You don’t have a employee that may have used antibiotics without telling you accidentally or not?

Firstly see if they still hold your sample.
We had this last month, and like you had not used any ab's.
When we took our sample in to dairy to check the next milking was ok before tanker came, we asked if our previous sample was still about. It was. We got them to re-test and it passed.
Also are you on every day testing with NML. If you are then this should automatically give a second opinion tomorrow.

Probably best to ask for a Randox Infiniplex test that NML can run. Think it costs about £50, but that will tell you exactly what antibiotic it is. Will help you fight your case if it’s an antibiotic you don’t use or comes up as another inhibitory substance. NML will hold the samples for a long time.

yes they are doing that test to see what antibiotic caused it but won’t get the results until Monday

I have, I tested it and it passed but they won’t take my word on it being from my tank or me telling the truth. Offered to send them a sample to test but they say I could of got it from anywhere
Sure that can trace what antibiotics it is etc, might turn out something you’ve never used etc if you show them the vet invoices, have you upset anyone ? Tanker driver, staff? I no of a case where someone put antibiotics in a water trough out of spite 86 cows failed, tanker driver spiked the sample ? Could be a list of possibilities...have you tested the tank tonite ?

Been on the phone to them blowing a rig and although they are still reporting to FSA they are going to pay me fully for that milk although it was a failure. I think me threating to put my notice in to leave them was what did it, but I don’t think they should be reporting me to the FSA. Will be interesting to see what the test for type of antibiotic will thro up

Is milk tested in house by the processors still ?

I don’t think I’ve upset anyone that I know of, there are water troughs next to public footpaths maybe a possibility?? Just talked to the tanker driver and he reckons this is happening more often since they’ve swapped over onto a more sensative antibotic tester
