antibiotic failures appeals

waste of time appealing to nml, we had an extremely dubious fail, buyer test passed, and milk processed. The 'fail' a/b, was a type we have never used, the cow was bought in, their vets confirming never been used, and vendor adamant not tubed. Both buyer, and us, complained, and had to chase for the result, 8 days later, 'sample gone off, couldn't test'. That sample was the 'check' sample kept by the buyer, so no mix-up.
Further complaint, by both buyer, and us, concluded, 'we are reviewing our procedures'.
result, we lost out, buyer used the milk as normal. In fairness, the buyer quickly realised it was a 'funny' result, and really tried to help. At the end of the day, result had to stand.
The 'complaint' procedure, and the 2nd sample held by buyer, should work, it didn't, and both of us are sure it was a rogue result, and they 'lost' the 2nd sample. ##############'s

on off label use of drugs, we got pulled up by a Spanish min vet, over a calf, with a bad eye, it had been treated with orbenin dc, on advice of, its exactly the same stuff, you use for eye ointment, but different label.
Nothing she could pull us up on, correct procedure followed, just the ointment 'packaging' but she really didn't like it, so vet records/med use etc, all perused, and correct.
All down to 1 old lady, with funny views.

then they get stopped by the bull, so you keep them for the calf, even when you know you shouldn't. Been very good this year, with barren price where it is, couple of old cows, and a decent calf, goes a long way to buying a i/c replacement to calve when we want it to. Much more sense.

Thanks 😊 👍 got to watch what I say here !
yes we should
trouble is, what we think is fine, can easily be twisted, or misinterpreted to show it in a very negative way. Its a terrible thing when we have to think about what we post on here, but we have seen that these posts are 'monitored', and for certain they are looking for 'ammunition' to use against us cruel farmers.

I think the bbc panorama program gave them enough ammo without needing anything from here!

regenerative farming, is one of the most probable solutions, going forward, and is definitely worth looking at. It solves many of the questions now being 'asked' for by milk buyers, and l would think its going to be 'the chosen' route, of those processors that pretend to want to go 'green'.
Unlike many new 'fads' that appear, it doesn't cost money to do, and offers considerable savings, for no less production.

"To regenerate something means to develop and improve it to make it more active, successful, or important, especially after a period when it has been getting worse."

You can on regenerate something that isn't working.

Basically, I've been degenerating my farm ....now look how I am regenerating it and I have a label 🤷‍♂️

l don't want a label.
but we have improved our grasses, growing different grasses, and to be honest, by dd or min-til, over seeding, we have gained, for lest cost, than before, with full cultivations for reseeds. I most certainly found our tentative steps, surprisingly easy, as was our processors 'sustainability' questionnaire, for .5ppl, we were already doing most of it.

Precisely that, but some love their label as its gives them a warm fuzzy feeling that after years of doing it wrong they can rectify the damage done to the wider environment and get a pat on the back.
Bit like being a reformed criminal.

what has shocked us, is natures ability to react so quickly, to a bit of TLC No doubt some will go way further than we may, that's up to them, we just dipped our toe in, liked what we saw, and slowly doing a bit more. A lot of it is really common-sense.

Really?

Nature adapts, nature can cure oil spills in time, doesn't mean the destruction in the short term is bearable.

The 'regen' brigade are starting to sound like some cult who are just renaming practices done by some farmers for decades and posting it all over twitter posing with cam am quad, ridgeline coat and a bunch of seriously hungry cattle/sheep desperate for the next fence move!
