Any Future.

Simple example, I had a single rake and bought a twin rake. Obviously not essential but halves the time doing the job
Halves the time !
More like one third of the time in my experience, halves the number of unproductive time on the headland and headland turns aren’t particularly swift when raking as you endeavour not to catch the swaths on the headland.

I was actually going to write that...
But anyone without experience of both can’t really understand

and - it means the baler can work at capacity 👍

Pffft ...... milk at 30ppl? I should coco. Only if you're one of the chosen on an aligned contract or an Arla supplier. Quite a lot of us are paddling about in the mid 20s thankee.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter what you're getting as costs are rising equally or greater so it's only churning.
Yeah,youre right.I was just thinking aligned,or Arla.

There'll be a future for folks like me who treat it like a hobby.
Hobby is slightly ruined when it comes to selling produce, but hey-ho.
Probably a future for big farming companies.
There also seems to be quite a few in the industry who get erotic feelings down loading and filling in Red Tractor templates. Not my bag, but each to their own.🤷‍♂️
This.

Get big, get small or get out. In the middle doesn't work anymore.

I was once told that plans are what people make instead of thinking. It made me smile so I followed it. I know too many people who plan too the n’th degree and when something in the early plan fails or something unexpected crops up they go too pieces. I take it all in my stride and keep going. Being good at prioritising helps! 😉👍
I don’t believe in plans so plan not to make any.

Then change the narrative. Make food miles the environmental issue. Find common ground with the environmental movement. I suggested to Guy Smith on here that he should meet with the ceo of FoE to explore such common ground, he replied that he didn't think he was important enough. P!ss poor attitude.
If there is 'any future' then it is through working with the envi movement, not through putting your wagons in a circle, because frankly we don't have enough wagons.
Food miles is a myth too, for hundreds of years food has been transported to and from other parts of the world, no reason why like in the past that food could be sailed across the oceans like the Atlantic like in the past with minimal carbon footprint or eco fuzzy tree hugger so called environmental standards.....
Ir equally imagine the outcry if the world decided they didn't want any food or beverage from the UK or banned Scottish whiskey???

Food miles is only part of the story and transport is getting more efficient and environmentally friendly all for the time. Transporting things around the world will get more common, which is a good thing as it creates opportunities for businesses to try something different and cater for other markets.
It also means land can be used for what it is best suited to, instead of having to provide food for the local population even if the climate or land type makes it inefficient.

Better transport has also lead to some nonsensical situations such as British spuds transported to Belgium, made into chips and then transported back.
That simply wouldn’t have been done 50 or more years ago

Yeah.
Lets have all the cows in NZ. With tankers bringing the slurry to the UK to go on the barley stubble, as we will only be growing barley, to produce all of the whisky in the world.
Brilliant.
