Any ideas on this

This morning when walking my dogs on a low laying meadow I noticed a couple of areas as seen in pictures.first thought was deer rubbing antlers in ground but other than that no idea.we have lots of deer about including reds but not seen any for a few months.badgers was another thought but never seen a badger in the area.did not notice any hoof marks either but The ground is drying.these areas are about 200 metres from sheep fenced margins too.anyone got any ideas.

Forget Rooks. They will leave similar sort of overturned turves but more randomly scattered.
Think your deer hypothesis is nearer the mark unless you have pigs loose

Might well be badgers looking for leather jackets, the bloody things can travel up to 6 miles in a night looking for food or water

Not pigs ,,the divets are too even size ,,pigs would plough it up ,,Im with the rooks idea ,still alot of chafer grubs in light soils round here so possibly there aswell
