He won't loose his account, take it to a game shop and see what they say it might be repairable or you could just buy a cheap used PS3. Be prepared to be hastled into buying a ps4 tho

How old is the PS3? Some models have problems with the fans on them. First of all, check the back of the console. Get the hoover and gently suck or the dust and any other bits around the vent at the back.

Secondly try this. Turn it off at the mains then hold down the eject button. Keep holding it as you turn the mains back on. Watch the power light, if it turns green then release the eject button. This will cause the fan to peerage on its highest setting and eject any disc that may still be inside. After 15 or so seconds the fan will stop, the console will beep a few times then the red light will come on. Turn it off at the mains again then back on, then power up the console. If that didn't work, it's most likely gonna have to go back to Sony for repair. Hopefully you still have warranty left on it.

And your son is wrong. He won't lose his PS account, you can log in on to another console with it. If the console HDD is damaged then he will lose his game data and save data if he doesn't have PS Plus.

No problem at least you got the disc out.

Well if your warranty has ran out (assuming it was bought new) then it may be a better idea to buy a new PS3 or a second hand one which you can get fairly cheap now. Sometimes sending it in for repair can cost a fortune if there's no warranty left.

Also, the PS4 is not backward compatible so you can't play PS3 discs on it I'm afraid.
