good looking suff , not to much bone , whats the logie one lleyn, char tex
Logie is BFL X Texel.
Too many Suffolks there today with massive heads, ears and shoulders and thick boned. This Suffolk is 25% NZ and top 10% of breed and was a steal compared to what his others were making in the ring

like all the other breeds , all the best performing rams i have ever seen and the recorded ones , have never had big bones and size , buying those big coarse rams sends the wrong message back down the line, yet buyers keep spending on them .

Yes agree, however the biggest boned, tallest, widest Rams commanded the highest prices, until buyers vote with their wallet and reject these Rams, the breeders will keep supplying them.

Couldn’t agree more. A lot of buyers want to talk about grass feeding but then pay the big bucks for the rams that roll in and out of the ring

+1 Plenty of ‘rolling’ going on today too, I thought.:censored:

I did have a short wander about and happened on a run of Blue Texel shearling ewes all making over 1000gns. Wtf?:scratchhead:

Also spotted several Texel & Beltex breeders sniffing round the (biggest, woobliest) Charollais too, so maybe even more crossbreds about in a couple of years?

Off topic though I’m guessing someone here will know- what time do the pens start filling up in Brecon Mart tomorrow?

There’s a reason they make the most money and it’s because they throw the best lambs.
Yours is not fit to be called a Ram !
I’d be ashamed to put up a pic of it. No wonder it was reasonable !
Is it such a big secret how much you paid ?
Pointless posting “reasonable money” imho opinion. I’d call killing money reasonable for that myself.
Sorry rant over but people knocking buyers for buying the best and taking home rubbish like that realy gets my goat.

Not everyone is obsessed with grass feeding though and maybe there’s a reason those people have the most money to buy the best tups.

On topic the rams I saw sold were well down on last year. Many many rams very low money apparently 80% clearance.
I’d suggest the NSA want to get their inspectors under control they are not fit for purpose saw one ram chucked out as only having one testicle.
He had two I’d be very proud of !
Can’t understand vendors allow idiots to ride roughshod over them.
Heard one chap tell the chief vet he was a bloody fool when a Ram he had was deemed overshot.
He then sold the ram privately for at least £100 more than he’d have made in the ring.
Buyers can decide at the end of the day surely !

That's a very interesting opinion, however what I look for in a Ram, obviously doesn't suit your system. I’m sure @Global ovine can give us some words of wisdom on this....

The NSA sales were always built around the principle that rams were all inspected for basic functional traits, like being able to eat, walk or have 2 testicles. At what point an animal becomes overshot to the extent that he is rejected is always going to be open to an individuals opinion. Plenty of other sales where you could go and buy one bollocked rams if you wish, including a big one on the Scottish borders.

Personally, I would always check over any ram that I was buying at any sale, regardless of inspection regime. Some would obviously rather an inspection team had already done that.
