As title really. I’m relatively new to it, competed at the last two Nationals and have had some interesting neighbours to chat to.

Thought it would be good to share some pictures, where you plough, how many matches, transport etc etc

This is me, getting a bit better each year but still plenty of room for improvement across the board!

Welcome along - there are few of us - Cropmaster, myself (retired), Ploughman61 (judges), a few who just watch.

Colin, you probably don’t remember but I had quite a long chat with you on the first day of the Nationals in Kent and you gave me some useful pointers.

Who is cropmaster? And Ploughman 61? I’m terrible with names but would probably recognise tractors and ploughs!

Hi, just started myself, this years national being my first competitive plot and lucky enough to get through to the second day.My son Billy has been in this class for four years and has been helped by ploughman 61. We are looking to travel together this year and do more matches.
Mick

I saw you and Billy in the plough off. Very impressive for your first time out!
I think we were at different ends on the first day. Somebody told me that Billy does a lot of matches in the Shropshire area?

Comes and ploughs in Staffordshire along with crop master, normally 8-10 in the class every weekend in september.

I’d love it if we could get anywhere near that number in Sussex. Unfortunately its rarely more than 4 or 5 in our class and probably only 2 or 3 match ploughs.

I’ve found competing at the Nationals really useful just to see how other people tackle things and look at some of the gizmos they’ve made.

Which would be the best matches in Staffordshire?

Most of the matches are good, billy leaves his kit up here and travels up most weekends, this year will have his dad as well, can arrange similar for you, if you want to, certainly helped plouhman63 get to the top.

It would be good to try and get to one or two matches with more in the class but unfortunately with a 3 year old and 10 month old I think I’m confined to Sussex for a few more years!

Might be interesting to tell my wife that’s what I’m doing and film the reaction....

Earn the brownie points in the close season, cash them in at ploughing time!!!!!!!!

Staffs matches used to work well with 2 matches per weekend in close proximity for 3 or 4 weekends and a couple of midweek ones. Definitely a big help in honing your skills by competing against several rather than on your own. I used to have an artic to lug mine and steve’s Kit around (used to hire the trailer) and i was doing between 25 and 30 matches a year including the ones overseas. When you run out of competition, head to Ireland!

@cormywormy is across the water - been using a plough I started with until recently- now upgraded to KV - previous owner has bought my KV plough

Like musical chairs. Hope to plough this season myself. Another forum member currently using my plough and has done a great job of getting it set up for me, as it was burnt when I bought it. I still have lots to learn , hope to get plenty of matches done.

That’s a pic of my plough , need a new front wheel and few small jobs .
