It was more of a 'what would happen if' type of question really . Mine will probably be fed outside in Autumn.
I remember back in the 80's putting straw in the bottom of a silage clamp but can't remember what it came out like .

People would start to worry if you were spotted spreading straw on a grass field HFD

Mine was cut Fri and baled yesterday . Sun was out very hot so rowed it up lunchtime and baled up later .

@Pennine Ploughing, you were lucky to cross the border. Elderly friends of the family who live in Gretna went for their monthly supermarket shop to Carlisle and both of them got 60 quid fines.
Years ago we used to put some barley straw bales round the edges of the pit and spread it over the floor, cows loved it, there was a fashion at one time to put sugar beer among the grass as it was put in the heap,a bit hit and miss I would think and with todays high output choppers would be difficult to keep up, a few round here put brewers grains at the bottom of the pit too.Here we go for a mad idea ......
What would happen if I was to have blasted some Barley straw over my grass before mowing it or dribble some along the swath ,would it ,when baled up , soak up some of the moisture content and become palatable,

Most likely very bitter and unpalatable tried it over 40 years ago no good better to mix it in when feeding silage don't wast the straw underby a silage pit.

Our efforts today, but this is a rye reseed last year, fert applied 1 March. Decided to take it off as we’ve had some sort of yellow rust. Bit sticky in places. Forecast is looking too dry again this year again.

Some starting this coming week down on the south coast (SE) for haylage I believe as stocks have run out so desperately needed.
