As above, been a long winter glad to be making silage as we’re almost completely out after last years dry summer in Hampshire, anybody else on it?

Steady on, its only 6 months since we got our first fall of snow, it'll be another month before we can be sure winter is over.

Folk are still trying to source neeps for sheep feed as the grass is nowhere to be seen round here. Snow a fortnight ago and frosts every morning.

No and not keen to make it early these days as I don't think its a good idea.
We have made some in April and early may before but now I think its Better to let it see some sunshine and warm weather and get some bulk and stem in it so it will stay in the cow longer and do some good.

What would happen if I was to have blasted some Barley straw over my grass before mowing it or dribble some along the swath ,would it ,when baled up , soak up some of the moisture content and become palatable,

We had had a frost most mornings in the last 2 weeks.
Any grass grazed down tight has suffered with checked regrowth.
Silage grass is growing but slowly.
Could take some 1st cut but will wait until it warms up . Its not going to seed in this weather and it won't regrow if it stays cold.

Just mix it with some straw when feeding it and it will be fine.Here we go for a mad idea ......

There was some silage made at Gretna about a month ago, was cut on the Friday, and rowed up Saturday dinner time, picked up that afternoon,,
