Looking to buy a meal bin the type that holds about 750kg to sit at a shed away from main steading. Save carting feed bags about as much . Nobody local to me had any just wondered if anybody has seen them in stock anywhere or any alternative things I can use . The most appealing type was the typsy meal bin

Could you not fabricate one from angle iron and plywood sheets and have a tin slide? We used to make meal hoppers or extensions for feeders when we had pigs. Didn’t take long with a power saw and screws. Be even quicker now with cordless tools.

Did wonder about an ibc only issue is the height they sit at for bending over them scooping feed out with a bucket . Also had thought about fabricating one with a good seal shut lid .

How do you measure out the right amount for a pen.
Do you just guess and under over feed?

We switched back to bags as it's all weighed already.

Saving to be had in bulk but under feeding can be too!

Basically we would need to fill this container whatever I get out our bulk bin so needs to be small enough to get under centre chute then we would take it up the road to sit at the cattle shed and we would scoop out feed with a bucket to feed each pen. We know the weight of feed in a bucket so work out from there . If day it holds 700kg would probably last 2 weeks before need refilled . At moment we been taking bags up every day

I have been thinking about a tipsy bin,
Jfc do similiar
currently use tote bags, but birds know to peck holes in them now.

Uncle cut a 600 gal diesel tank in half, strengthened around the top with 2"angle iron, fitted castors to the bottom, and welded two sleeves for pallet forks underneath.
They would carry it to the bin with the loadall and fill it up. Carry it back and put it down in the middle of sheep shed, if it was in the way for moving sheep and lambs etc, you could move it by hand out of the way. I'm sure you could do something similar with a smaller diesel tank.
