Anyone bothering with sclerotinia sprays?

Eventually decided to give a second Sclerotinia spray to our WOSR.
It’s been flowering for weeks and weeks.

If you look at the AHDB Sclerotinia forecast map, we are directly under that red spot on the south coast of Ireland.

Used a half rate of Proline plus 2kg/Ha of Solubor (leaf samples showed low B).

Crop looks to have promise so decided to not hold back.

Really stupid question but is Osr grown much in Ireland? Do you have an oil crush or does it come to Liverpool or go in animal feed?

Not a stupid question at all.

It’s a small crop here to be honest, it became a little more popular when sugar beet stopped in 2006. It was then on the rise until the horrendous harvest of 2012.
Some of us still grow it as it’s an excellent break crop for cereals. We have good yield potential here but LLS in particular can be an issue.
Thankfully we don’t have resistant CSFB here.

Pretty much all of it is exported now as far as I know, to the UK.
Some did go into poultry feed also but that’s price dependent I think.

It’s not my favourite crop but I do like what it does for following Cereal crops (I’ve often grown spring barley after it).

Thanks very interesting. Looks a great crop. Why follow with spb? Slugs?

I just find that you can get a yield lift in spring barley for two years following WOSR whereas it’s generally only for one year if you follow with winter wheat.
I like to grow seed following break crops and if I choose the right spring barley then I can get 3+ years of seed cropping following the WOSR.
Winter wheat or winter barley work fine too of course after WOSR.
