Anyone for a Brexit ?

I am happy to be trading within a large protectionist trading block(y), and long may it continued.
Let’s face it, you would have to be nuts to leave such a thing if you were in business:nailbiting:, but that would never happen, anywhere in the world, would it?
True enough, but looks like we are in some form or other from where I see things. Bojo will be caught between the EU and America and that’s going to get uncomfortable! The major trading blocks are going to come to increasing tensions as they all attempt to protect their economies. Just look at what China do to protect their industries? What would happen to them if the Western world reduces Chinese made goods by even 25-30%?? I do understand the direction of travel of the EU and more or less why in this modern small world, but it will result in many member states losing their identities. Is this a positive thing? Open to debate I guess?

I still don't see what common legislation, adopting the same currency, free movement or using the same justice system have to do with a trade deal. Still, I suppose no one does.

Try to get America to accept the rulings of a foreign court or divest even one sliver of their own sovereignty? Good luck with that, the bulk of them would rather take up arms to stop it.

I have for a long time (most of my life) had a love of France. So yes, I would like it to keep its identity (there are laws about French language, radio, telly work etc) but I think in this modern word, nothing to do with the eu, that is hopeless- Elvis, Beatles , Madonna, Brad Pitt, YouTube, it is all blurring. I first went to the cz rep in 2002, the speed of change there is astonishing- my FIL (a hater of the communist regime) welcomes a lot of the change but is also very worried about the country loosing its identity. Of course, language is a big part of that and when you live in a country where around 15 million worldwide speak a language, it would make you feel vulnerable.

I think in this modern climate conscious world trade in goods will have to fall, how many more tellies, cars or washing machines does a family need, employment will change into leisure outlets and in the west with ageing populations, care needs, the advantage of this is more can be based in our own country as long of course we value those jobs and pay more for them instead of using cheap foreign labour

Well, you’ve left so it’s of no concern of yours now (y)
I operate within the eu and am happy to do so. Common currency helps, we move some money back and forth to the CR, and for me, I wish they would get with the times (like Slovakia) and get the Euro.
Makes life soooooo simple

Plenty of UK citizens being sent abroad to places like Thailand for long term care- approx £750/week there, more like £2000/week here.

My misunderstanding; still can't see why you can't become a naturalised frog... :scratchhead:

As for the rest, interesting. Surprised at the carcase size wanted in Italy, @le bon paysan what size do the Spanish go for?

I was born in Market Harborough with both parents, completely English. I can never be anything other than English. Believe me, it pains me, more than you to have to accept the fact.

Funnily enough, I have (a quite excentrique farming) neighbour from high north of England. He tells all the French, he is Scottish. I can sympathise, I would much prefer to be able to say I’m Scottish or Welsh, well, anything other than English

My heifers would go to Spain as 10/11 month old weaned stores. About 360 / 380 kg. If they go over 12 months I get hammered on the price. They generally make 2,55/ 2,60 euro a kilo live. But have been down as low as 2,49.
The Spanish prefer heifer beef but I'm sure some of mine end up being bred.
I budget on an average of 800 euros a head before vat for Males and Females. That way I'm not disappointed, they usually average more. No transport charges with the groupement. And a divvy at the end of the year.

If it weren’t for the moat around our sceptre’d isle (and Larry refusing to kill them) I would think a lot would find their way here.

What's the deal live export wise?
Any big resistance?

No problem.
Mine are collected in a small lorry, weighed at the lairage 20 minutes from here. Then go on a big transporter , usually overnight to Italy. Pau valley is around 8 hours away. My groupements main trade is Italy.

There is also trade to Morroco, where the king has put in huge fattening yards and a program of greening by irrigation to produce food for the masses. This is usually fulfilled by dealers
. Some trade to Turkey, but there can be holdups on the border for paperwork and I wouldn't like to think of my calves going on that journey.

I can get my head around someone wanting to live abroad and, if he was aspiring to live in and become a national of a country which is an absolute paragon, I can understand him thinking a bit less of his own country. But you're 'bigging up' France... France? I'm sure you could list a number of things that you think are great about France and that the UK - England only if you like - is so much less in. But I could write a long list of verifiable things that France has done and is doing which range from 'less' than in England to being utterly deplorable in themselves. Do you overlook France's negatives or, not care or what? :scratchhead:

Not care.
It’s simple, I feel comfortable here, I feel comfortable with the people around me here, I like the attitude and manners here. I couldn’t say any of that in Leicestershire since circa 1985. It’s hard living somewhere where you feel so at odds with all around you.
Football fans are a simple example...

What’s the problem with being English?
(Asking for a friend)

I gave a short reply above.
It’s water under the bridge now - I did travel back a few times in 16 to do the historic rally champ, being in Wales and Scotland was fine, but I found being in England so unpleasant I gave up any idea of competing again and brought the car back “home” - and that was mainly even before the Brexit vote!

Car sits gathering dust now :(

Bull carcass price is €3.90 at the mo and you get paid for every kg. Limousine that is. Would they do better there?

That would not be too much different, maybe a few pence more than our base price but if lim bulls grading -U or better it would be behind U.K. price.
That’s if you could find someone to kill non U.K. tagged cattle without a hefty discount of course.
