We use a 37ft (11.3m) Cross Slot drill in conjunction with a Shelbourne CVS 32 header for maximum surface residue. For wheat in the USA this is a rare setup, although the stripping headers are really starting to gain popularity in the midwest wheat belt. We currently run four products through the drill (seed, dry fertilizer, liquid primary, and liquid starter on the seed side). As our drill ages (about 60,000 acres on it now) we have been getting straw jammed between the cast opener sides (as they wear the gap between the disc and the sides widens) until it collects enough to stall the disc. Happens more in wet conditions in the spring. Any CS guys in the UK see this issue?
