you need to size the system on your elec usage so as to get the best out of it, otherwise you will be exporting a lot which is what you must try to avoid,

4.8kw system with 3.6kw of battery pack installed in oct , not fussed on exporting, just to refuce farmhouse import to near zero
Would you mind sharing details and cost?
How many panels?
Would be interested in doing something similar, and perhaps installing an electric boiler in the farmhouse to provide “free” heating

And how is it performing today? Will the batteries tide you over.
I have been quoted £23k for a single phase electric supply, looking at alternatives.

Today - couple hundred watts at best.

A good day will see the battery charge to ~50% despite a constant 1000w load from the house, but they're back down to flat by middle afternoon as the sun fades though.

All depends on how long you want payback to be.
Figures above net of VAT £7750
4.8kw system should generate about 4300 units a year @ 16p is £691
So 11 years to cover £7750
but
that assumes all 4300 units can be utilised, easy in winter
a challenge between 10am & 3 pm in summer, especially in a domestic situation.
Often think the best match for solar is an ice cream parlour.

Never going to happen, green energy is getting cheaper, it was 10 years with massive Fit payments, panel prices seem to have hit the bottom a long time ago now.

wont invest then ! simple

5yrs is 20% before you consider value of a site so lets say 10% gross return

not an unreasonable return to expect

Ours installed 6.5 years ago initial FIT 12p + inflation uplift & export @ 6p on 50% of production. payback in 6 years. Actual (slightly better than installers prediction )

it works with decent ROI if you use lots if power during daylight hours (we don’t)

if battery tech gets more viable then it might work for our domestic needs at some point

12 panels, approx £9.3k but vat back on that.
Thankyou. does that include the batteries? If youre not exporting, do you not need a Smart Meter and is wiring/installation cheaper and easier? ie less paperwork and beaurocracy?

pretty sure with three houses and Farm there would be use for electricity at all times of every day even in summer. Washing machine, computers, Air conditioning, grain fans, lights, etc...
