Evening all. Looking to source an Orchard sprayer to use to disinfect poultry houses, know nothing about them. What are Hardi like? What should I look out for? Does anyone know of anything decent second hand?
TIA

I have no direct experience of orchard sprayers but I would advise caution on Hardi that usually if anything breaks then it requires hardi specific parts unlike most other manufacturers which can be fixed with more widely available parts

They are basically a tank a pump and a fan, so as long as it makes pressure and doesn't leak there's not much more you can look at. As they are used in orchards they usually get subjected to tight cornering with the pto going. Pto shaft and gearbox can get a bit hammered as a result so check them as best you can. Try and see it running and see if there is excessive vibrating. Gearbox on the fan itself can be an issue so check no excessive play in the fan.
Controls are via solenoids and can be iffy but usually corroded terminals. The sprayers throw some quite harsh chemicals all over themselves so rust and corrosion of susceptible parts needs checking.
Pump, pto, gearbox, controls and leaks, a new pump will cost a fortune, pto can be megabucks if wide angle yokes but straight yokes are cheaper and sensible money.

Kidd's advice is spot on.

Mine is a 3 point link rather than trailed so avoid the PTO issues. Washed of every time its used which is why its stayed in good nick.

I drive a self propelled like this https://www.andreoliengineering.it/atom-disinfection/?lang=en as a part time gig since i got rid of all my livestock. Make sure you have floor jets as well as the ring and fan as products like ammonia and Bioocyst need to be slathered on floors as well as the dwarf walls etc. Personally i wouldnt entertain the compact open station tractor / trailed or mounted orchard sprayer as some of the disinfectants we use are pretty nasty.

Look up the items that NP Seymour in Kent area stock. All vineyard/orchard equipment, pretty sure the biggest supplier in the UK now.

There was one of them on eBay a while back, looks like its off space 1999!

Agree with you re open station tractor - you'd have to be suited up to the eyeballs - working in sheds you'll surely need a cab with filters!
