Anyone know anything about the mf7718 at Adam Hewitt's?

It says it has a hole in the sump but what's caused it?
Herd of 4wd shaft coming off?
Has it been run with no oil?
I'm interested but thought it would go silly so haven't been to look at it, nor do I have an account set up.

Why has it been written off? Could put a new engine in easy enough?

it has come from PW May a contractor in Essex according to the signage on the doors. Maybe you could ask them directly? They have a website.

Could well be the 4wd shaft had one go on ours the yoke gave out put a hair line crack in the sump, I’d imagine if she was flat out down hill loaded it would of done more damage

It’s a funny thing with salvage auctions I often think they are extremely expensive for what they are ( they are some bargains obviously) and replacement parts are certainly not cheap plus your time has to have at least minimum wage value!
Think it’s easier to just buy one that works 👍🏻

Buyer beware with Hewitts. I bought a self propelled sprayer for spares, and if it wasn’t completely borxed before it went to their yard it was when it left.
According to the wagon driver first they tried to push it on to the low loader with the auto gearbox in ‘park’ and smashed the back end in, then they lifted it on with a loader and extension forks and destroyed the fuel and hydraulic tanks, with the weight of the sprayer resting on the engine sump and auto box sump, both now caved in.
Hewitts reply was literally “I’ve spoken to the yardsmen and it wasn’t us, prove it” 🤬

As someone else has mentioned ask the people who’s name is on the door they have nothing to hide they have been paid for it

Yep we had 2 romanian lads for hewitts turn up to get our opico dryer that was written off as it had had a whack with the loader. It was still usable before they got it onto their wagon, it certainly wasnt after. Everything was bent or twisted, i mean everything.

a local dealer here had a MF7718 that broke a gear in the reduction hub & cracked the casting & when they looked in side the mess was so bad it was a write off sold at Hewitts for very big money as it just said in need an axle trumpet housing

I think the shaft had also cracked the gearbox casting,
So sump + engine work/check?
4wd shaft
Gearbox casting

I've started wondering if insurance company are writing stuff off not because it prices itself out but because it has such a high "broken/as is" value.
Eg 50k tractor needs a 20k repair so worth doing but it has a value of 40+ as is

If the cost of repair is half the value or more the insurance company will write it off unless the owner specifically says they want it repairing. Obviously up to a certain point/ value. We had it with a combine we had the option to mend it or write it off.
