Christmas/new year normally throws up some great threads on TFF!šŸ¤£šŸ™„

Was that not when the 29mpg fendt emerged? There was also the feed trailer debacle. That was maybe old BFF. Was another one when grumpy left tff.
Iā€™m sure a few ā€œwhat pickupā€ ā€œwhat tractorā€ threadā€™s usually appear this time of year to with people wanting to spoil themselves šŸ˜‚

ā€˜Been through the workshopā€™

Who has ever actually seen that stated on a real (by ā€˜realā€™, I mean registered with Companies House and HMRC for Corporation Tax and VAT - you know, a real professional agricultural machinery dealer) advert for a machine?

I have only ever seen that written on weekend dealerā€™s ads. The boys that work card-in for somebody else during the week and hawk stuff on FB marketplace on the weekend.
If you buy off those, you're asking for trouble. Take a real dealer to court with a problem, the consumer will win. Sale Of Goods Act, consumer rights etc. are all in the punterā€™s favour and rightly so - they must be protected.
If you buy off a weekender you pay the dealerā€™s premium but have none of the protection.

Itā€™s no different than paying some dole-rat a bit of cash to do your plastering. It may be a fraction cheaperā€¦ but if it all goes wrong, youā€™re on your own.

Not massively relevant to the actual thread, I know. Iā€™m just referring to those tarring all dealers with the same brush.

Give and take in all machinery deals. Without the crystal ball machine or x ray vision Iā€™d take nothing for granted with any machine.
Chances are the pto clutch is stuck to flywheel after 50 years as it is on my cyclone skid unit which doesnā€™t matter to me as I need permanent drive. I dare say you could crash it in if nothing connected to the PTO, or engage while engine off and start up with it engaged. If you want the clutch to work, split the tractor and try to uncease the pto disc. I split mine to change the main clutch but decided to leave the pto disc alone as there is a belt clutch on the harvester down the line.
J R Firby is a good dealer as far Iā€™m concerned. Helped us out with a bust share on a cultivator we bought. But a 50 year old secondhand tractor is surely sold as seen with no warranty. I once sold a TED with 12 months warranty but Iā€™d been right through it and spent Ā£2k on it on parts alone. Price reflected it though.
Put it down to experience, get the tools out, crack on and enjoy the ride.

I know some one who bought a secondhand tractor off a dealer who he hadnt dealt with for 20 yrs thought it should have had a pdi!!! and expected it to be as new (15 yrs old maxum)Didnt ring the former owner then guess what after the usual 6 months found a few problems then blamed guess who had sold him a pup.A lot of buyers always expect too much especially if you dont buy on a regular basis ,If you have never bought anything that turned out not quite right youve had a sheltered life.

Brother bought a haymaking machine from a company in Keighley, the instructions were taped to the machine which had obviously been out in the rain for quite a while, so the plastic bag was full of water.

Gave the boss a ring and got a mouthful of abuse, better things to do than supply new manual for it, refused to pay for it and suggested he send the wagon back for it.
Nobody came to collect the machine, then some 12 months later one of the fitters turned up to do some modifications.

Sat a further year or more unused, untouched, then out of the blue the wagon came and took it away.

Are we 100% sure it's a foot clutch and not hand lever?
Wouldn't be the first time it's operator error rather than a fault with a machine.
I've found that on too many occasions
Heā€™ll be on next saying the left hand handbrake is faulty! šŸ¤£
( For those not au fait with DB tractors , the handbrake, pull up and twist is adjacent to the hydraulic lift lever to the right of the seat. A lever on the left, either lift or push is a hand clutch on DB 996 tractors, 995 and 990 have a dual stage clutch pedal.)

......well if I was the dealer ,who I believe is a very good one , and I found out my name was being dragged through the mud I would have by now been on to the OP and said " right then good sir lets have a conversation about this and get it sorted" . Mostly by talking things can get amicably sorted .
A point being though that perhaps having made the offer to 'bring tractor back and we will have go at sorting it' rises the question ...has @samthor101 replied to that offer or just chosen to go off the deep end on the internet .

Have had a tractor and a sprayer off him over the years and two weeks ago purchased another. I've never met the bloke or been to his yard but he's been honest with me. Told me the tractor I've bought is a pig to start once it's been running and said he wouldn't deliver it untill it was sorted. Hes ended up having a main dealer out to it and it was a simple fix. Thumbs up from me

I think his reply to the offer he wants it collecting and returning free of charge to
