Anyone made any hay yet?

I'm highly doubtful about this week. Had a real dousing today, more showers forecast for tomorrow so grass/ground not drying, cloudy day in prospect Monday, maybe one warm sunny day Tuesday then back to cloud and showers. My mower is staying the shed for now.....

Looking at the long-range there is no hint of any settled weather at all. I just keep mowing bits when the weather is catchy. It will get wrapped anyway.

I just picked up a couple of loads of wrapped bales from our flood meadows and I was splashing through water over most of the surface. It'll be a while before it's dry enough to mow any more.

I have plenty more to do so could be useful.
I kept mowing a fortnight ago when lots didn't and cleared 30 acres. Lots of luck required in this job.

I have found that it is particularly difficult to make hay in puddles.

Yes I think he has got that a little wrong...but you have to build a picture with his forecasts overall and I say overall he is very good..but he did say back in Feb..a front loaded summer

Yes, his July forecast was for a mixed first half of July, then high pressure building for the second half, building to a thundery breakdown at the end of the month. Pretty much the other way around, high pressure first half, thundery breakdown, then mixed for the second half. I notice he gets rid of the old forecasts pretty quick, so you can't go back to compare with actual outcomes!

Fortunately I cracked on, in latter part of the of the first week, otherwise I'd be looking a bit silly now.

used to be able to ring up lyneham and get a good forecast then went to premium rate one which was ok, now they cant seem to tell what day of the week it is, perhaps the forecasts are just too detailed and local now whereas before it covered a fair area so was more general

I'd forgotten all about phoning the weather line. We were on there a couple of times a day this time of year, just in case they updated it.
