At least you have something in the shed.

Mine is emptying quite quick, what with the cows and the fact that all my hay customers have run out of grass.

Most years 'the horse won't eat hay that is less than 3 months old' This year the horses appear to manage to eat it much sooner than that.

Finally finished on the 12th, atleast 2 weeks later than normal.
Been quite a struggle with this year's weather, but no were as bad as 2012.
Was still at it in September, in between trying to do harvest.
That was 'year of the tow chain'!

We are drowned here ,its been the wettest summer here in a long time , 2 good weeks in June ,that was the summer over. I couldn't imagin we will ever have severe drought like yourselfs .more than welcome to have some of our rain.
This is the ram paddock, they reckon they need supplementary feeding.

I made second cut hay last Tuesday, it is lovely stuff tbh had a thorough bred horse trainer out to look at it took a load of 300 said it was the nicest hay he'd seen this year in Northern Ireland so I can't complain too much!!

Had 26ac still to cut, 1st cut, just got away from me when I started baling straw, and the forecast was always awful through harvest here, yet totally dry and very easy in the end and could have had the hay five times over. To be fair it's on a holiday camp and would have been a nightmare in the 6 week holiday, it's not been mowed or grazed for years just topped sporadically and it was full of reed and everything but grass in places, ate a set of conditioner belts mowing on Monday finished yesterday, turned up with the tedder today and more problems :( so back to 3m haybob tomorrow, unbelievably it's virtually fit to bale in places without being moved despite being totally green when mowing.
Rain Sat.

bad luck with the tedder, but it is amazing how quick it can make this time of the year, can be dusty in the winter though despite being fit to bale - it will have done your field good though

I baled a few more arable margins yesterday, avoiding torrential downpours by not that many miles, there were floods not far east and south of me apparently. Small bales, probably will not be very special hay despite plenty of additive, but strangely enough thats exactly what I wanted, as I'm getting more and more enquiries for bales for events, and I don't like sending out decent hay when its just going to get chucked away after the wedding reception, or barn dance or whatever. But I can get the same for those sort of bales as average quality 'proper' hay, so its good to have something in stock that can be sold for that specific purpose.

I shall round bale the last few bits next week, all the bits under heavy shading, they'll be rubbish and will be used as pheasant shelters on the game strips. And that will be the end of the hay season for me(y)(y)
