anyone on spreading fert

Well that was a rubbish day. Went to physio. Saw neighbour spreading. Social proof the ultimate indicator. Tore off home and consulted weather. Concluded this evening was last opportunity for quite some time. Rang agronomist. Recommended getting on with winter barley. Went off and put spreader on after swearing at over-tightened bolts on PTO shaft (rescued by impact wrench). Watched wind bend trees over. Decided to scare pigeons for a while. Noticed neighbour out drilling (WTF?!). Turned out he was patching in drill blockages in wheat. Still looked OK. Further social proof. Tanked up tractor. Checked tyre pressures (8 psi as low as they would go). Started just as it was getting dark. Rather wetter than expected. Finished field with still 20ac in hopper. Next field even wetter than the last. Aborted and drove around countryside looking for another drier field. Couldn't see tramlines in one candidate. Aborted again and went to another farm. Started spreading. Only slightly drier than newly revised expectations of wetness. Irate father on phone complaining about failure to heed advice re ground conditions. Carried on. Finished hopper only to realise aperture set on wrong setting due to misreading spreading book. Lots of swearing. Threw book out of window. Spread field a second time to get rate right. Made even more mess of the tramlines. More swearing. Still some left in hopper. Spread in another field (probably a neighbour's - beyond caring at this point). Went home only to tread in sick left by dog. More swearing. Went outside to lawn to wipe sick off shoe. Trod in muck left by dog. Swore at dog. Decided never to go spreading again.

We all have days like that. Funny when it happens to someone else, but I do feel your pain. Nice day for spreading now. No overnight rain

More haste less speed, as my old man would say.
When I left college many moons ago, all bright eyed and bushy tailed. I was determined we were going to up our game, and that included getting fertiliser on earlier.
The workman we had at the time, pleaded with me not to send him onto the wheat, but I knew better.
As you've guessed, once round and stuck up to axels .
Lesson number one. Don't panic, spring will arrive and the crops will grow. Every farm is different and just because your neighbours out on the fields, doesn't necessarily mean you should be.

Get a mild week and lots of crops will start to look hungry. Wet feet will only make it look and feel worse! I'm feeling daft because I only ordered a set of new fertiliser nozzles 3 weeks ago to find that Hypro haven't delivered any stock to the country for ages. Luckily @SimpersTradeCounter is sorting me out with a couple of alternative sets so I can get on as soon as they arrive. Sticky land will be done first while I have relatively good travelling conditions.

Got an acre or so of barley, here, in a corner, Brisel, where the machine ran out.

Completely hidden from the Council road, fortunately.

Just can't believe how yellow it's turned in a little over a week.

Wish we'd done our osr today.
Decided not to rush about this morning because it was due to be windy this afternoon - if anything, the wind dropped!
Would travel easily.
That'll teach me not to take much notice of the weather forecast:banghead:

Made a start on the barley this afternoon .

They're growing fast and I feel if we don't get something on to them they'll soon start to suffer also if the weather turns rubbish for the next month or so the crops are going to be glad of something to keep them ticking over.

Got 220ac of osr done today

Weather looking useless for a few days now but the rest is more forward so won't hurt to wait a week if it has to

Made a start on barley this morning, but oil pipe burst, and had a tractor demo booked today, so only one field got done.

When do people typically put their Sulphur on their crops? Are people sticking it on now with the 40/50 units end feb/v early March? Or do you put it on with the bigger bulk later on? Usually hand is forced because it hasn't been delivered, this year it's all in the barn ready.
