Currently using a iveco van (for towing) and a small daihatsu sporty 4x4 for checking sheep , the daihatsu is no good for towing , Just looking around and the hilux surf 3.0 ooks a useful truck that would do both jobs , , running costs seem about the same as my daihatsu .dont mind a looked after old truck , in fact prefer it as al depreciation has gone from it , and can just go get another if it breaks , , good with spanners anyway .
Question is how much of a pain is using back tailgate , looks like window needs winding down everytime you open it , or are the newer ones like a hatchback , spare wheel carrier looks a pain as well , we are in and out the back quite often with feed and various sheep related odds and sods (and the dog ) , its either that or a terrano 2 , but rust is my main concern with them any opinions on either ? .
Quite a few l200 and other pick ups about but most have led a hard life as they are a dedicated work truck . dont really need the pick up back anyway as have plenty of trailers about

Ive never have prepared it . Just take it
3 fails
Blowing on a bandage on first part of exhaust . prob y the turbo seems poor
N/ s side light prob loose
and flog lamps hanging off ( did not know it was part of test . New ones been in the back seat for months )

its a K reg. , 93 so I don't think too bad

rear window is ok when its working , but u can have it open a bit like a side window , good to vent the dogs .
it aint all open or closed , good for dogs not running out , if u get me . like a stable door .

Had a gen 3, 3.0 with the lift up tailgate, it had the swing out spare wheel, just took it off and bought a wind up kit to put the spare under the back.
Was probably the best truck I have run, had it for five years then sold to a friend who took it to Zim.
Still going strong now, even he says its the best truck he has had!!

My garage lads had a 3lt surf in last year wanting a new starter motor ,,because it was an import they were waiting over three weeks on delivery from abroad .
Problem with the older 3ltr toyota diesel ,I was told they dont like the new blends of fuel and by the amount of colorado diesels on ebay ,the stories maybe be correct .
Main reason why I went for petrol

Thew op could try an old 80 series Landcruiser. The are fairly simple some parts now scarce part there are specialist breakers. I'll bet the running costs will not be any higher + a proper tow vehicle!
