I’m told they are, Although I suspect the 10 speed auto is fitted to mask the 2.0 engines probably narrower torque band than the 3.2. That’s just my thoughts though and have no 1st hand experience of the 2.0 version.

the biggest disappointment for me would be the lack of the nice 5 cyl soundtrack

I have just bought a new bi turbo after selling my 3.2 i have had for 5 years. I was very apprehensive about going from 3,2 to a 2 litre as i always believe cubic capacity is king, definitely not true the bi turbo goes like sh!t off a shovel and the torque is brilliant the 10 speed gearbox feels like velvet , Gearbox was one of the things i hated about the 3.2 it was non responsive when towing or first thing in the morning very impressed with it so far fingers crossed

I have a "my mate story"....

My mate sold his 3yr old 60k mile 3.2 auto and bought a10 speed, raved about it for a week the smooth gearbox, the torquey if tight engine etc. He then took it off road in 4wd towing a sheep trailer across a field, turning on full lock there was what sounded like a catastrophic bang. Repeated again coming out of the field booked in to local dealer who couldn't find anything. So he took the service manager for a run to a bumpy car park and did the same. Service manager agreed to sort it turn saying stops were not heavy enough. Anyway after 3 months with the local dealers Demo (which did the same) and getting Ford UK MD involved via social media he has got his money back and bought a 3.2 Amarok. Engine is fine but fuel consumption especially towing is no better. Less choice in the UK pickup market now. Good luck. Plan on hanging on to my 13 plate 3.2 for a while yet unless the tin worm it causes it to fail an MOT....

so what had gone wrong was with it ?

We swapped last month from a 3.2 manual to 2.0 auto.
Very pleased so far, seems to be much sharper and more responsive.
Only on it’s own and light towing so far but will be taking a couple of loads of store cattle to the mart on Saturday so will get a bit of a workout then to compare to the old one which seemed to be quite lazy when she had a heavy load behind.

Couldn't get to the bottom of the problem which is why after a lot of asking he got his money back, changed turn stops on steering, various bushes it did improve but was never properly sorted. He is happy enough with his VW
My apologies, perhaps its 3.0. It is a V6, one of the last:happy:

Wouldn't the steering stops be the same be it a 2.0 bi turbo or a 3.2?

my local Ford garage mechanic told father not to sell my 3.2 for a new one as the dpf‘s are huge bother and big job to get to and expensive.

I wonder if that was the same North Northumbrian Ford dealer that 'diagnosed' a faulty DPF in my 3.2 Ranger, and quoted me £1200 plus fitting and VAT for a new one?

I took it to an auto electrical specialist, who diagnosed a blown fuse on the DPF ignitor circuit. Apparently when the ignitor dies it blows a remote fuse (not in either fuse box) which throws a DPF fault code, and yes, I'd just had a faulty ignitor replaced by Ford. It's mentioned in the ignitor 'technical service bulletin', but obviously the fuse hadn't been replaced by the fitter.

It was a close call, as I'm sure they wouldn't have given me my money back when the new DPF failed to fix the check engine light...

I watched a few Australian Ute review vids. Only thing they found to grumble about from memory was the 10 speed tended to hunt up and down when towing. Interesting what the tuning expert said was that he thought there wasn’t much more to be got out of the 2.0 Ford and that where max boost on the 3.2 was 19psi, on the 2.0 it was 29psi - or something like that. Apologies it was a while ago I watched the vids and had covid at the time!

All that said I expect it has a lot more get up and go than the the 1.9 in the new D-Max.

The mrs has a Mini and manual is on the on board computer. It’s actually not that bad to use unless you want tyre pressures and they forgot to put the pressure sticker on the door pillar. Does anyone actually read them these days? Occasionally useful if you need to know something I suppose or in the case if the mrs ask’s me rather than look it up herself!

User manuals are a waste of time nowadays,

3 pages telling you useful stuff like where the fuse box is what the tyre pressures should be and where the bonnet release catch is hidden and stuff like that,

50 pages explaining why drinking the contents of the battery, washer bottle, radiator, fuel and adblue tanks are a bad idea.

Then a further 1000 pages or so dedicated to explaining how the telly screen in the dashboard works!

There's a 2.0 Ranger not far from here thats supposedly been re-mapped to 280hp. I haven't seen the owner lately to ask what the reliabilities been like.

The US base model Ranger gets the petrol 2.3L Ecoboost, which is a slightly detuned version (270bhp) of the engine previously used in the Mustang and Focus RS. Jammy gits.
