I think I have an inguinal hernia,on the right hand side of my abdomen (just above my testicles). I had one on the left handside fixed 22 years ago.
Have any TFF members used an inguinal hernia truss to keep them going until their hernia ca be operated on?
I supply firewood and have just noticed I have an Inguinal hernia at the busiest time of my year!!🙀

Had three hernias fixed at once five years ago. One was repeatedly getting trapped when punched out. Mine were higher up but painful too. Was back working as normal within a couple of weeks. If it’s giving your severe pain don’t wait to get it fixed. Wife made me a small Hardish cushion to put pressure on mine when Wedged in my jeans.

Depends how sore it is but getting enough pressure to keep it in while lifting firewood will be difficult.
Not every hernia needs an op though they tend to get bigger

A truss is certainly just a stop gap, until ones business peak time ,allows one time to have the op and get well time, which is so essential unless one wants to end up at square one,or worse.

There used to be a place in Manchester ( Brookes ?)that specialised in hernia trusses . My grandfather , father , and two of his brothers went there to be measured and fitted . They were a spring steel "C" shaped belt type of thing with either a pad at each end or just at one end , covered in very soft chamois leather . To me as a child they looked very much like a medieval piece of torture equipment . They did seem to work however , but looked most uncomfortable .

I just had a Hernia op last thursday, Private. £3000 plus £250 for the consultation. Should have had it seen to a couple of years back but became a problem early this year. Waited 8 months on the NHS and was told I could be waiting the same again. Given the time again I should have gone straight down the private route. Whilst sat down resting and incredibly bored I have started looking at medical insurance and wonder in this line of work and given the well documented struggles of the NHS is it worth taking it out....to be decided.
