Hi I am hoping to embark on project to steer for drilling- are you using it for rtk - was wondering how it compares to the brands found in Claas and JD I have a Claas with an s7 screen using 2xsim cards hyd steering -would like another rtk tractor but £££££
A friend has been building a mower using rtk and he will do all the magic box stuff even the correction signal so really looking for any tips and guidance etc.

Yes using full multi-band RTK, uBlox F9P Ardusimple boards, base station in the yard using NTRIP over the 4g network to the tractor.
Using a hydraulic valve T'd into the steering circuit and the power beyond.
Accuracy is about as good as you can hope to get really, pretty sure it's in line with commercial systems but I've never done a side by side comparison. It seems that most units lie to you though according to this video by Brian:
It takes a fair amount of tuning to get it perfect but it's very reliable when it is.
Here's a video of me using it drilling OSR this autumn.

What valve did you use and how much was it - I was thinking on the same lines to tee into steering leaving the orbital well alone. Also have you a sensor on steering column to override and assume you have sensor on axle (or was your tractor steer ready ?)

Hydraforce SP10-57C valve, no override sensors so AOG will fight you and it will win.
This is obviously unsafe however it works for me as I am the only operator and as I built it, I am fully aware of the risks I am taking. Always unplug it when in a public area. I personally find the lack of sensor quite useful as it means I can add or subtract a little from the steering angle to help it track more accurately around sharp corners.
I recommend setting up a shuttle valve and pressure sensor in line such that when autosteer is enabled the output from the orbitrol is diverted in a loop with the pressure sensor, which when activated disables the autosteer. (It might be possible to do override detection in software by taking the derivative of the position sensor and comparing it to the PWM value, but as far as I know no one has done that yet.)
The steering sensor was an Active Sensors SLS1300 series which cost around £250. This mounts alongside the steering ram and is very rugged with excellent linearity - my previous sensor was a swing arm mounted off one of the king pins which was cheaper but less accurate due to Ackermann steering effects.

Thanks was wondering if linear sensor working along side ram would work- I am relying on my friend to do the techy stuff but he knows nout about hydraulics or tractors but has got his lawnmower going nicely around the garden - more questions will surely follow but thanks for now.

There must be lots of others like me who are going to embark on having a go with agopen- I personally know fa about computers but a friend does -so in the spirit of open source perhaps we can learn off each other in what works and what does not ! I have got a toughpad and just sourcing a hyd valve
Might be an idea to list what parts go into our builds etc- I am hoping for full rtk on a budget I including a base station for under 2 k ......

What are you running it on In the tractor? A toughbook? Laptop? Tablet?

I've got Panasonic fz g1 a bit pricey but perfect size for in cab bought off Ebay £240 also got older cf d1 bigger and a bit clunky but cheaper !
In what way is the d1 clunky? Just in its physical size?

I'm using a CF-C2 Toughbook.
A lot of the CF D2 on eBay are MK1 models with quite low spec processors by modern standards. I have run agopengps on an old laptop which only has a 1.0 dual core celeron and a HDD. It worked, but is very slow compared to any modern computer.

Chuwi ubook Pro is my current tablet of choice. Good Port selection, fast and it charges directly from 12v

You do not need to know anything about programming, I mean no need to write any code. If you choose hardware from Andreas, I assume he has loaded the arduino software but I'm sure you would manage to upload the file yourself too.
There are software experts who tweak the code, both the arduino and the actual laptop but they do it only because of some very odd personal interests.

Just a bit slower and screen not quite as responsive as the newer one and size - but that might just been mine as both off ebay.
