Application Rate for Sodium

My sheep pasture is very low in sodium/salt and I'm having trouble finding a recommended application rate.

Searching through these forums gives application rates of 120 - 150 kg per hectare.

I've just been told 50 kg per hectare is about right.

Bearing in mind it's a herbicide if the rate is too high, has anyone personal knowledge of a reasonable amount to apply?

Thanks

When i’ve Put it on, i’ve Always applied 125 kg/ha, but only because a cwt per acre sounded about right.

The Sodium in salt is very soluble, so would need doing every year.

50kg an acre. Can do it several times a year if you really want. As above souble so doesnt hang around forever.

Use bulk bags of plain crushed rock salt its dirt cheap. People like MVF sell it etc.

Dont expect a magic transformation in plant growth.

Can provide lumps of rock salt for most stock I believe?

Thanks Guys.

I've bought a tonne of salt and will put it on 10 hectares and see it there's any difference.

I'm particularly interested to see if there'll be any difference to parts of fields that the sheep won't eat even though it's been resown.

It’s a job to measure response of course, but I thought our sheep grazed tighter on some old pp (low Na) that I spread Ag salt on a couple of years ago. I’ve got 6t sat here now to repeat it, but it’s not made it out of the shed yet.

question is will it prevent staggers aswell like the man said.. be doubly useful if it did, this time of year, depends on your grass and how much k is kicking around tho i guess.
