Applications are now open for a prestigious £5,000 scholarship aimed at supporting Masters students studying Agricultural Sciences and Production Systems at Harper Adams.

The John Oldacre MSc Scholarship highlights not only the importance of agriculture but of the commitment of Harper Adams and the foundation in developing future industry leaders.

The MSc Agricultural Sciences and Production Systems offers two routes: One deepens existing agricultural knowledge for those students who have studied agriculture already, and the second route is catered to students with other subject specialisms at undergraduate level.

Dr. Laura Vickers, senior lecturer in Crop and Environment Sciences said: “Harper Adams is a world recognised centre of excellence in food production. We work closely with industry and professionals to ensure our courses develop postgraduates that can make an impact within the sector.”

The John Oldacre Foundation

The scholarship is named after WJ Oldacre (Senior) who started trading as a hay merchant and carrier in Gloucestershire in 1881.

Over the next 100 years, three generations of the family developed the business into the largest manufacturer of animal feed compounds in private ownership.

The John Oldacre Foundation was formed in 1981 and has provided financial support for the advancement or promotion, for the public benefit, of research and education in agricultural sciences and the publication of the useful results of such research since.

Doris Taylor, head of development, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded funds by the John Oldacre Foundation and to launch the John Oldacre MSc Scholarship, which is co-funded by the Harper Adams University Development Trust.

We’re offering up to two scholarships of £5,000 which will be awarded to students offered a place on the MSc Agricultural Sciences and Production Systems for autumn 2019.

For more information on how to apply for the scholarship visit Harper Adams’s scholarship page.
