Applying for a Firearms Licence.

gun.... shotgun certificate - easy enough to obtain, I got mine at 12.

an FAC is a very different animal, don’t confuse them!

a shotgun is dangerous but a high powered rifle / multi shotgun is another level!
Actually I knew this having owned a number of guns in the past, including a Remington Nylon. 66 automatic and a pump action Winchester 22. A Merkel 12, a Hardy 20 bore s/s. 2 Berretta's and a Miroku. But thanks for pointing it out.

The more and more I re-read this thread, I've starting to believe this was a setup/troll from an anti.

No, not for firearms. A Firearm certificate is granted by the police, after they consider the merits of the case. Parliament have given them the right to decide and the means to make that judgement.

Have another read of the Act I linked before.

There is still the right to appeal through the courts. The UK is not a police state yet, even though some might like that.

I have read the link and it clearly states "rules made by the secretary of state" and gives instructions to the "Chief officer of police" on how to enforce them.
It also states that rules can only by changed by the houses of Parliament.

As you know. Section 44 of the act allows an appeal to the Sherriff in Scotland.

I have read the link and it clearly states "rules made by the secretary of state" and gives instructions to the "Chief officer of police" on how to enforce them.
It also states that rules can only by changed by the houses of Parliament.

The rules are the admin arrangements in Section (photos, referee declaration etc). The decision lies with the Police based on the loose guidance I quoted earlier. Subject to appeal, as above. As I've written before, there is no right to hold a Firearm certificate.

With schizophrenia could you not make up a scenario and convince yourself that you don’t have schizophrenia even tho you do
It is entirely possible, particularly when dealing with paranoid schizophrenia as the paranoid aspect will lead the patient to believe that they are being persecuted & a false diagnosis is being used to get at them, they will often see the medication that moderates their condition as causing the symptoms and being used to control them. It's a very scary place to be....

I’m now renewing my firearms and shotgun license, took the form to my doctors for them to fill in and they promptly relieved me of £50 AND then told me it would take a month and they wouldn’t budge on that . Also what I don’t understand is that I haven’t been to the doctors for ten years in which time I could have become mentally unstable and kept it to myself and they wouldn’t know .
Same with North Wales Police took the Form to Doctors surgery paid £50 and was told to come and collect it in a week. I then had to scan it and send it online to firearms department.

People with schizophrenia can be capable of absolutely anything and they won't even be aware of what they are doing, believe me. As with most things, it ranges from the very mild and totally no hindrance to the unimaginably serious.

I've heard schizophrenic episodes described as having a nightmare whilst being awake.

Firearms licences given out to some strange people. Unfortunately unless they've been diagnosed with problems or convicted of something nothing is done until its too late.

All a bit disproportionate, isn't it? Some very dangerous people with driving licences. Ownership of one is also a privilege.

I met a little old lady on the single track road by my house the other day. I had a trailer on and she admitted she couldn't back her car which didn't have one! I ended up backing 50 yards with the trailer! Now, should she have her licence and her car seized?

Collected my medical certificate from the surgery on Friday, after a 6 week wait, I sent the on-line renewal the same day. The new certificate arrived yesterday, with just ONE day to spare before I had to re home the guns. When I called the firearms office, they did say that response from the NHS regarding medical history has not gone as they expected..;) but the law still stands and there are no exceptions for anyone not having a current certificate of licence......"get yer trousers on son, yer nicked"
