Applying scratch cards

Morning

First rime this year applying estrotect cards to heifers, so I have a couple of queries where I'd be grateful for your help.

What, if any, adhesive do you use?

I will brush them clean but would you clip hairy ones?

Any photos of the perfect placement?

Hopefully the title of the thread is generic enough for it to pop up in searches in future.

Thanks

In this weather I just slap them on , no brushing or cleaning unless visibly soiled , the few that come off are due to bulling

The new estrotects with black dot are much stickier than old ones. But for the price of a bit of glue might be worth doing too. Only brush if they’re losing hair or dirty which they shouldn’t be this time of year

I can remember using the early scratch cards 10-12 years ago. The adhesive was crap. Started using them again last year. It’s so much better in these new ones. We don’t have any issues with not using extra adhesive.

They do have to be warmed when cold and applied correctly.

ours are coming off now, day 3, 29 cows served, 11 days, 34 out of 41 hfrs served, and a further 18 running with bull, who looks as though he's been enjoying himself !
We have used tail paint, as well as scratchies, on those 'not sure' scratchies, if the paints rubbed off, she's on, if not, we leave, another new idea from our substitute vet, it's quite a good one to. But he hasn't cured our jerx hfr from licking and nibbling the things !!!!!

Yes, we've got a lick of paint for a second opinion too. We'll see later on what they've made of them.
Served the first yesterday as was seen bulling, start properly today.

12 done today and not afraid to admit that there were plenty where the tailpaint was quite difficult to judge. They looked like they had hi viz jackets on with the patches. Happy with how easy they made picking them out, just hope they hold now!

only 11 today, in the first 12 days, 77 hfrs and cows, plus 18 running with bulls. 16 in calf cows, , out of 160 eligible for service, lets hope they all hold.

day 19, 100 cows served, from 120, calved to end april. 55 hfrs, all served in 4 weeks, all we need now, apart from rain, is a good conception rate. Out of sync cows, at Exeter next Friday, herd calves 42 days, out side that block, sold I/c,
a nice example to aim for !

Where are people paying for estrotect stickers? They seem way overpriced for what they are. Cant believe no one has tried to undercut them.
