Checking back in with Steele Farms after getting them at silage late in 2023, we catch up with morning feeding with 250 dairy cattle in the big house with hefiers and dry cows as well. Working with the Ford 7610 on the Strautmann VertiMix 1700 diet feeder making ration of silage, straw and home grown barley mix. Loading the diet feeder is the JCB TM420s with the SlurryKat Sheargrab. Just below the farm over looking Eglinton Village Tom sowing maize with the 6 row Samco maize drill. Sowing 2 different varieties to increase germination and under the film to incubate the maize in the early stages of growth cycle. John Deere 6R155 working with full rtk to ensure maize is planted to suit the header for the forager due to spacing to allow for plastic. Maize during the winter is fed to the dairy cattle which is rocket fuel for milk production. #arimagery #farming #agriculture #farmlife

Jamison Potatoes getting some more Maris Piper planted on Easter Monday with some cracking land which we seen the ploughing in back in February. The first process in the field is ridging up the drills for destoning. David in the John Deere 6155R with the ridger on the back pulling up the ridges with full use of the John Deere Green Star GPS System. Not only does this ensure full use of the field but also makes the following jobs much easier when following. Niall on the John Deere 6130R with the Jones bed former working the ridged beds with a Patterson Bedtiller working down the larger clods and lumps into a finer profile for the destoner which will remove any large objects and stones. On the rear of the machine we have two ridge bodies to keep the beds neat. Nigel in the John Deere 6155R with the Grimme CS150 destoner working across the field removing clods and stones from the beds. When it comes to harvest time this gives a cleaner sample in the box for easier sorting. Once destoned we have the planter, Adrian in the John Deere 6610 with the Grimme front hopper which is applying Yara Topcrop fertiliser. Planter on the rear is a Grimme blah cup planter. Fertiliser is places in the same line as the potatoes which gives them a kick start in the growing process. As we move to the rear of the planting setup we can see the hopper is never filled this is to ensure that the little buds/eyes dont get damaged. As the cups move around they gather a baby spud and deliver it to the bottom unit. It is then dropped into a channel and placed with a specific distance to the next one and then as we spin around we have a blah which then covers over the baby potatoes and gives the finished drill...

Morning spent with Purcell Farms on the other farm with the robot working away. With one Lely Astronaut working with 65 cows, we catch up with feeding. Fiat 100-90 working the Keenan Mechfiber with Maize, Silage and straights all added to the blend. Maize, Silage and the grain is all grown on the farm. Recently added to the fleet was a new JCB 532-60 replacing a 526-56...offering a big step up in machine size and comfort. With 65 high yielding cows being milked through the Lely Astronaut with an average of 2.89 milking's per day across the herd. James was explaining they are averaging 2450 litres through the robot per day Down at the robot we also seen the automatic footbath which flushes and rinses itself out on a timed schedule. Also the hardest working part of the farm, the Lely Discover working all day long keeping the slats and rear of the cubicles clean. #arimagery #farming #agriculture #farmlife
