We had a smaller clamp which all had really bad disease and shrivelled grains and starch was 20% Only growing super high disease resistant varieties now, extase seems to work well, Graham not so much.

This was the diseased stuff so isnt fool proof, don’t believe the DM on this sample though.

That's very impressive, I've got barley going in after maize all being well and would like to do the same next year
try h/rye and vetches, after maize, and 1 cut, then back into maize, our rye/vetch yielded 15t/ac, followed by 18 t/acre maize crop.
Maize was late maturing last aut, so w/wheat instead of rye, but will follow maize this year, again with similar. 32 ton/ac, is an awful lot of grub off a field, in a year. We did that, for 3 yrs, so not a one off. The only drawback, is we have been unable to get an analysis, for last yrs, despite trying very hard, 12 samples sent off, don't understand, but. All l can say, all stock liked it, and grew/produced well.

We might all have to do things like this to get our indexes down!

we are heading toward rapidly changing times, completely out of our control, we just have to learn, to work with new regulations, however stupid we think/know they are. Those who refuse to change, will simply end up farming against the changes, and that is not exactly the best way to a decent profit.
Changes towards climate, pollution etc, have been happening for the last decade or so, and despite initial doom and gloom, forecasts, we have managed to work them around our industry, satisfactorily, with out to much doom and gloom, and perhaps new regs, will turn out, to be less problematic, than we think. In any case, there's not much else, we can do.

Not so good if you have insufficient rain. Rye sucks the moisture, maize doesn't get going.

all crops, whenever planted, are subject to weather conditions. But, we choose our fields carefully, we are subject to drying out, 1 of the reasons we double crop, on our 'best' grounds, to mitigate the effects, of a dry summer, when a lot of our ground, stops growing.
