Arctic Cat Quads

Run 2 diesels ,probably had them 10 years, can't fault them, bomb proof, drag trailer with 8 ewes and 16 lambs in round and give it some serious stick and takes it all. No idea about petrols but if they are built as strong as diesels then they should be good.

Had a 300 petrol back in '98.

Currently run a diesel 700. Contrary to Bob it has been a brilliant bike - 18,350 miles on the clock right now. Bushes are soft but zero problems other wise - certainly will never go back to Honda as a main bike (run them along side the diesel, they are a very poor bikes side by side). The bushes and hubs are only problems on the diesel - due to its weight. The petrol bikes are fine.

What model are you looking at?

The 400 and 450 are KYMCO built bikes - they are NOT Arctic Cats. Superior to a Honda in every way in a head to head comparison, BUT I honestly don't know how they will stand upto the work in the long run. 450 is a very good engine and AC have used it in their own bikes for quite a while with no issues.

AC have seen it wise to stop sending their own bikes under 700cc to the EU/UK - unless you get a US model 500 or 550 imported specially. The 700 is a beast of a bike and is very, very capable. The talk is AC have really upped their game with the Alterras and I'd have no fear buying a 700, from my own experiences.

The biggest problems with Artic Cat is:

1. The warranty is almost not worth the paper it's written on.
2. Nobody wants them 2nd hand.
3. AC themselves just don't seem bothered with UK sales, or backup. Their OEM parts are expensive and they are slow sending them out.

Have you bought one yet, or had a demo?
Brother bought a 420(or is it a 450) and seems to like it ok but he blamed his can am for being too heavy on his wet ground. I had a demo of same bike and thought it was gutless compared to similar can am. Far too light and hopeless with even an empty trailer going through a sticky gate.Looking at a second hand can am or honda now as this is just our second bike.

400 or 450 are the models... 400 is 366cc and 450 is 443cc.

Surprised you say its too light - its the same weight as a Honda 420 (old model, anyway). Stock tyres are rubbish on them, though. I'd need a go myself to see the power.

I had hoped it was the 700 you were looking at. It is some bike!

Sounds like you're probably a bit hashy, whereas your brother takes things nice an steady and believes in taking his time to do a job properly.

Might be the tyres right enough though!

Nearly a year on... how's the brother getting on with that Arctic Cat? Any problems - Is it up to the work?
