Are 4ft x 4ft pens big enough for 70kg ewe with twins?

I do believe there are those that are maternal and nose them to a spot and lay around them, those that sit where they see fit. We lamb out in the day on a banky 64 acre field, the ridge is exposed from all directions, if wind in north or east its a few minutes tops before hypothermia. Almost all lamb in a sensible spot, odd ones don't, same theory I think

4x4 are fine however the best strategy is to have some larger pens for any ewes with issues.

These are the ones which lay on their lambs.

Me thinks some peeps need better ewes if they are lying on their lambs!!!

Seriously though, mine are 4x4 and maybe have 1 a year that lies on her lambs. My adult ewes are between 74 and 78 kg pre tupping. Last year a 60kg Cheviot mule gimmer with her 5 lambs. No bother.

Depends how big the ewes are and what there is to work with.

We've just got hold of 300 + 7ft pallets so guess its gonna be 7x 3 (ish) this year.

If I had a ewe with 5 I would suggest maybe try a 3x3 and hope your luck is in!! Save a lot of fostering!!

I'd say to small personally, but friend of mine puts big mules with twins in 4x4 and recons no problem!!

I only use 4x4 pens temporary pens till I get round to rehome in to the main pens 5x5 and 6x5
