Don't buy new if you've not got enough worthwhile work, and never chase hours. Would think both of those are common sense tbh
You said "need to do"

What you mean is "need to be doing"

More hours means more depreciation and therefore higher cost per hour.

Everyone wants a 1000 hour tidy 4 year old tractor, no one wants a 4000hr 2 year old one.

the per hour depreciation on a 2yr 4000hr tractor is far less than on a 1000hr 4yr old tractor, hence my statement.

low houred are sought after because somebody has already taken a massive hit on value and not done much work, if you want to do that then be me guest ill happily buy it off you. again thought this was all common sense

"more hours means higher cost per hour" is completely false, especially with brand new tractors, but that still isnt a reason to do extra hours for free "to make monthlies"

But if its covering all costs plus 20% profit why would you need to do 2000hrs? If its making that level of profit doing 200hrs a year it should be justifiable
read my previous reply. if under 2000hrs you are better off with 2nd hand. very simplified and depends on other factors though.

2 similar tractors 1200hrs difference £12000 difference.

Who has taken the bigger hit?

I would guess that those 2 aren't that similar at all either as you've hidden the gearbox on the more expensive one.
Don't really see the relevant of a 3 and 4 yr old tractor anyway especially when they are from different sellers so pricing could be high/low.
Why are you trying to justify something that everyone else knows is false?

I haven't hidden anything they are there on the net for all to see!
You clearly don't know what your talking about. Claiming a 4yr old 1k hour tractor will take less of a hit per hour than a 2yr old 4k hour tractor, then providing an example of differently specced and from different dealers, 5 years old 1500 hours and 4 years old 500 hours. What a load of rubbish.

So you provide the proof then to prove your right.
Exactly the same spec of course as they are so easy to find at the same dealer at the same time.

A four year old tractor would have been a lot less new than one a year old one that's for sure!

@dave mountain
I bet your one of those kids at school that kept moving the jumpers used as goal posts as well 🙄
Same dealer
Same spec
Same brand of tyres
Same seat 🤣🤣
And completely different ages/hours to what was mentioned. In your example the low houred one is newer, exactly the opposite of what I said.

Really? in what way would you be better off with the second hand? Based on your claim of only doing profitable work? Surely buying new to do 200hrs rather than 2000hrs will have higher costs therefore the 20% profit will be higher?

I'm not going to dignify that with a serious response. Yes go out and increase your costs massively it's the best way to increase your profit margin
